      Role Summary

      The Senior Learning Specialist is a subject matter expert in organization-wide learning and development programs at Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgment to makes decisions in the design, development and delivery of organizational learning for professional and leadership development and provide recommendations to meet the current and future program needs of the business.

      Key Duties

      • Acts as a subject matter expert in the design, development and delivery of organization-wide learning and development programs, including professional development, business knowledge and skill-building and diversity, equity and inclusion topics.
      • With minimal direction from leadership, exercises considerable judgement to make decisions in the design, development, delivery and maintenance of organizational learning programs, and aligns solutions to Alaska Airlines strategy, initiatives, values, and focus areas.
      • Makes recommendations to address content development, instructional design, and project management for the learning program across all levels of the organization, with a focus on professional and manager-level content.
      • Remains current in best practices and trends in the learning industry and finds ways of testing and evaluating new approaches.
      • Applies deep knowledge in current learning principles and concepts, instructional design theory and evaluation methods, and available training techniques and technologies to support the development, delivery, administration, and evaluation of learning programs.
      • Guides, influences and coaches leaders across the company on employee growth and development strategies to foster leader-led learning.
      • Consults with management to identify workforce gaps and needs, gather data and feedback, facilitate capability, and design learning and performance solutions that make a measurable impact.
      • Evaluates the effectiveness of and continuously improves the program through stakeholder assessments and awareness of industry best practices, trends and standards.
      • Ensures alignment and functionality of learning with the Learning Management Systems (LMS).
      • Plans, implements, and guides the work of a cross-functional design team of internal and external support (i.e., vendors), including project management, budget control, and quality control.
      • Writes, edits, and designs facilitator guides, participant materials, and multimedia presentations, as well as other printed and digital resources that are clear, consistent and concise.

      Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

      Required

      • 4 years of experience in instructional/learning design, training development, training delivery or related area.
      • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
      • Experience analyzing instructional needs, defining course requirements, and designing/developing learning solutions that can be delivered through multiple modalities including e-Learning.
      • Knowledge of adult learning principles and understanding of diverse learning and thinking styles (e.g. generational, cultural, etc.).
      • Demonstrated ability to facilitate large-scale projects with diverse stakeholder groups involving cross-divisional or company-wide goals.
      • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
      • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
      • High school diploma or equivalent.
      • Minimum age of 18.
      • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

      Preferred

      • 1 year of experience in designing diversity programs.
      • Proficiency with authoring tools, such as Articulate Pro Suite, Lectora, Adobe Acrobat, or Photoshop.
      • Experience in leadership learning and development.
      • Experience in a project management or solutions design role.

      Starting Rate

      Salary Range

      $81,000 -- $121,400 / year

      Bonus

      Salary Details

      Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees.
