      Location: Sydney - Hybrid opportunity. In-office requirement 2-3 days a week as a minimum, which could be subject to change based on applicable DCS workplace policies.

      About the Role

      We are seeking an experienced Senior Network & Security Engineer to join our team to design, implement and manage a secure, high-performing network infrastructure. This critical role safeguards our organisation’s systems and data from cyber threats and keeps us operating 24 x 7. The Senior Network and Security Engineer provides daily support and technical insights to the broader business. Responsibilities include managing ServiceNOW tickets, mitigating security vulnerabilities, supporting the project team, integrating new products into the operational environment.

      You will be expected to participate in 24 x 7 on call roster.

      Key Responsibilities

      • Design, implement, and maintain robust network infrastructure components including firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, switches, and routers.
      • Conduct continuous network monitoring, performance tuning, and advanced troubleshooting (Level 3 support) to resolve complex issues and proactively identify and mitigate risks before they impact operations.
      • Monitor network capacity and performance to meet current and future demands.
      • Minimise operational risk and enhance availability by enforcing access controls, monitoring protocols, and documentation standards, support security audits with evidence of compliance measures.
      • Develop and maintain operational procedures to ensure consistent execution and reduce unplanned outages.
      • Review and endorse network configuration and equipment changes to maintain stability and security.
      • Assess emerging technologies and solutions to enhance network security and data protection.
      • Analyse operational data (incident and change records) to identify trends and support continuous improvement initiatives.

      Key Challenges

      • Balancing proactive and reactive support while aligning with strategic and tactical goals.
      • Enforcing security controls without compromising network responsiveness and availability in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
      • Staying current with cyber security best practices and emerging threats, providing timely and relevant advice to stakeholders.

      Key Knowledge and Experience

      • Extensive experience in network engineering and operations, with at least 5 years in a senior-level role.
      • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
      • Current professional certifications preferred:
        • Cisco (CCNP, CCDP)
        • Palo Alto Firewalls
        • F5 (BIG-IP LTM, etc)
      • Hands-on experience managing complex enterprise networks, including:
        • Wireless LAN: Cisco WLC and APs
        • Routing/Switching: BGP, OSPF, STP
        • Load Balancing: F5, Citrix NetScaler
        • Security: Palo Alto Firewalls, Cisco ISE
        • Data Centre Networking: Cisco ACI, Cisco Nexus OS
        • WAN Technologies: SD-WAN
        • Core Services: DNS/DHCP, SSL/TLS Certificate Management
        • Cloud Networking: AWS, Azure
      • Advantageous skills:
        • Scripting and automation knowledge
        • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
        • Excellent documentation and technical reporting abilities
        • Ability to work autonomously and perform under pressure

      Essential Requirements

      • Must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
      • Participation in a 24x7 on-call roster
