      We are looking for a Senior Thin Film Engineer to lead the development of high-performance optical coatings for advanced infrared products, support continuous improvement of existing products, and provide technical expertise to manufacturing.

      Primary Duties & Responsibilities

      • Design optical thin film coatings for VIS, NIR, MWIR, LWIR with primary focus on 2 to 15 microns coatings on various infrared materials.
      • Develop coating processes for e-beam, IAD and DC Magnetron coating technologies.
      • Provide recipe development, parameter optimization and process documentation.
      • Design and specify tooling.
      • Use array of characterization equipment, including FTIR, Spectrophotometer, Optical Microscopes.
      • Troubleshoot process upsets, monitor coating performance against design, and provide engineering support to manufacturing when requested.
      • Will lead the process area where continuous interactions with operations and maintenance team is required.

      Education & Experience

      • B.S. or M.S. in Physics, Optical Engineering, Materials Science or a related discipline.
      • 5+ years of experience in optical thin films coatings preferred.
      • Must be able to review specifications, design and develop coatings, then qualify those coatings processes for production.
      • Able to effectively troubleshoot coating upsets and alleviate process issues.
      • Hands on experience with vacuum and control equipment would be a plus, including PLC, vacuum pumps and cryo-cooling.
      • Expertise in statistical process control or Six Sigma certification a plus.

      Skills

      • Experience with thin film optical design and characterization required.
      • TF Calc or similar coating design software (SolidWorks exp is a plus)
      • Strong experimental and analytical skills paired with sound engineering judgment.
      • Must be self-driven and have demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
      • Must be able to perform in a distributed, diverse cross-functional team environment.
