      We are currently seeking to recruit enthusiastic and conscientious Signalling Designers to join our rail Signalling Business at various locations across the UK including, Glasgow, York, Birmingham and Swindon.       As part of Atkins Signalling Business, you will have the opportunity to develop your design skills, and experience across all phases of project delivery including feasibility, option selection, single option development, detailed design and in support of installation, testing and project close out. The breadth and complexity of project opportunities you can expect within Atkins is truly enormous. We have teams delivering designs for major resignalling schemes, like the Feltham re-signalling programme, using the latest interlocking and control systems technologies and our “Advanced Signalling Method” (ASM) delivery process. You may also find yourself supporting the delivery of multi-disciplinary design packages for station enhancements, track renewals, level crossing upgrades and even small-scale consultancy remits.       Essential Requirements:

      • Hold a current IRSE 1.1.510 Signalling Designer Licence.

      • (Candidates who have relevant experience and sufficient evidence towards a Designer licence application may be considered).

      • Mainline signalling design experience, including knowledge of UK railway standards, design processes and procedures at outline (scheme development) and/or detailed design stages of delivery.

      • Evidence of a strong commitment to the delivery of signalling designs to the highest standards of safety and quality along with a clear understanding of risk assessment / hazard identification and mitigation throughout the signalling design process.

      • Evidence of continuing professional development and maintenance of up-to-date design skills, experience and training records.

      • Proficient in the use of appropriate, industry standard CAD packages and signalling design tools for the development of detailed design and/or signalling scheme development (e.g., Bentley MicroStation).

      • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written English) and collaborate with team members, clients and other stakeholders as necessary.

      Desirable Qualifications and Experience:

      • Experience of signalling design within a multi-disciplinary rail projects environment.

      • Familiarity with use of modern electronic document management systems (e.g., ProjectWise).

      • Experience of undertaking signalling surveys, including knowledge of a range of lineside equipment and technologies.

      • HNC/HND/Degree level Qualification(s) in Electrical Engineering or similar.

      • PTS holder.

      Key Responsibilities and Opportunities:

      The primary function of the role is to provide design delivery support in day-to-day duties throughout the project lifecycle, from inception to completion, including -

      • Preparation and production of railway signalling designs, specifications and reports.

      • Ensure all deliverables produced comply with company procedures, contractual and statutory requirements, including delivery within agreed timescales and performance parameters.

      • Providing support, guidance and development of junior staff.

      • Technical liaison with other team disciplines.

      Staff are expected to not only maintain/renew their existing skills and competencies but also commit to continuing personal development. Opportunities to develop will be supported, including:

      • Support for IRSE licence category ‘progression’ with workplace and competence assessments provided in house (Atkins is an IRSE licencing agency).

      • Opportunities to obtain secondary competencies (e.g., testing qualifications).

      • Internal and external training courses to support professional development (e.g., towards sitting IRSE examinations).
