      Job summary

      We are seeking a Specialty Doctor in Older People Psychiatry.

      The post holder will work with a full-time consultant old age psychiatrist covering catchment area of Broxbourne (Hoddesdon, Cheshunt, some of Enfield depending on GP, Waltham Cross, Goffs Oak, Broxbourne, covering 10 GP surgeries) (approx. 20,000 over 65 population).

      The post holder will provide speciality doctor input to community team. Although the administrative base will be at Rosanne House, Welwyn Garden City, the clinics may also run from the Seward Lodge, Hertford (about 8 miles from Rosanne House).

      The clinical work may be at other Trust locations, or other community destinations such as patient's home or residential or nursing homes. The post holder may be required to attend team meetings at a location determined by the manager of the Team.

      Main duties of the job

      To undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients.

      Provision of psychiatric expertise to the East community mental health service for older people (South East sector).

      To undertake outpatient clinics, home visits and participate in multidisciplinary case discussions.

      To liaise effectively with primary care and mainstream mental health services.

      To have regular clinical supervision with the consultant psychiatrist. It is the post holder's responsibility to ensure that this is booked.

      QUALIFICATIONS

      Essential

      • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.

      Desirable

      • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

      ELIGIBILITY

      Essential

      • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.

      Desirable

      • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
      • Section 12/Approved clinician approval.

      CLINICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

      Essential

      • oA minimum of 4 years' full time post graduate training (or it's equivalent gained on a part time of flexible basis) at least two years of which to be within a psychiatry training programme or as fixed term Specialty Trainee within psychiatry o; or have equivalent experience and competencies.
      • oMinimum of 6 months experience within old age psychiatry oAbility to work well in multidisciplinary teams
      • oExcellent oral and written communication skills.
      • oExcellent clinical skills using bio-psychosocial perspective and wide medical knowledge.

      Desirable

      • Clinical experience in a range of services within Psychiatry.
      • Excellent degree of medical knowledge in relation to old age psychiatry.

      ACADEMIC KILLS LIFELONG LEARNING

      Essential

      • Ability to demonstrate clinical problem solving in interdisciplinary areas.
      • Possession of good organisational skills.
      • Be able to actively listen and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
