      Job summary

      This role is hybrid with some working from home time, and a choice of bases from Northallerton, Scarborough and Selby

      About the Role

      As aLocality SaLT Manager, you will lead and develop specialist speech and language therapy services across North Yorkshire, including provision for Youth Justice, SEMH targeted mainstream settings, and Pupil Referral Services. Youll manage frontline staff, design innovative service models, and act as an expert witness in tribunals. As one of a team of 4 managers at this level across our large county you will benefit from excellent peer support.

      Main duties of the job

      Key Responsibilities

      • Lead service design and delivery for complex and specialist caseloads.
      • Develop and implement new services across a range of settings.
      • Manage statutory responsibilities and contribute to SEND processes.
      • Supervise therapy teams and support CPD, placements, and apprenticeships.
      • Build partnerships with health, education, and social care agencies.
      • Monitor service impact and contribute to strategic planning.

      What Were Looking For

      Essential:

      • HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist.
      • Extensive experience in assessment, intervention, and multi-agency working.
      • Strong understanding of SLCN and its impact on learning and development.
      • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.
      • Ability to travel county-wide and work flexibly.

      Desirable:

      • Experience managing SLT services and staff.
      • Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., Makaton).
      • Experience developing services for SEMH and vulnerable young people.

      Job context

      The Inclusion Service works in partnership with all schools and settings within North Yorkshire to promote the inclusion, participation and achievement of children and young people with SEND. These services are allocated into SEND hubs, coordinating provision at a locality level across CYPS as a whole, to ensure needs are met holistically. This role involves a highly specialist level of spoken communications, so a confident use of English language is required.

      Job purpose

      To carry out the professional responsibilities of a Speech and Language Therapist with highly specialist caseloads including the Youth Justice service, Personalised Learning College and learners who have been permanently excluded from school. To develop systems and practice within these clinical services which are based in evidence and ensure efficient service delivery. To develop and coordinate speech and language therapy services within the locality including allocation of statutory advices and tribunal mandated input. including developing new services to the Youth Justice service, SEMH targeted mainstream provision and Pupil referral services. Over time there may be further services/contracts in the locality all of which will require service design and implementation. To ensure that services are delivered and developed in line with current best practice and evidence. To improve the communication skills of the learners by direct intervention, and developing the skills and resources of the staff.

      Operational Management: Working with the professional lead, based on an expert level of CPD and awareness of trends in the field, develop and deliver specialist services within the local authority, advising the professional lead as appropriate within your area of clinical specialism Work across services including Early Help, schools, settings and with health colleagues to develop services which ensure SLCN is accurately identified and needs supported early Development of innovative approaches and programmes to meet needs of children and young people in schools and settings, including establishment of new S<>
