- To assess individual care needs, develop, implement and evaluate care given to patients in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.

- Responsible for monitoring the workload/patient acuity within the ward on a daily basis to ensure that nursing manpower is adequate to provide a safe standard of nursing
- To be familiar with the Health & Safety at Works Act, and be aware of its implications and ensure that ward and Trust policies are followed.
- To act as an appropriate and effective role model at all times.
- To act as an effective mentor and preceptor and support other ward staff in performing this role.
- To act as a resource, supporting and motivating staff members.
- To keep abreast of and participate in, local and Trust initiatives.
- To promote a learning environment that facilitates the development of staff enabling staff to develop to their full potential.

- Gynaecology and/or surgical experience.
- Acute nursing experience
- Basic understanding of Gynaecology/Womens health nursing.
- Basic IT Skills
- Venepuncture / cannulation/ECG.

Job summary
Opportunities have arisen for registered nurses to join our Womens Health Unit, working on ward 62 and Emergency Gynaecology clinic out of hours.
You will be responsible for the planning, organisation and delivery of care to patients. You will be responsible for supervision of junior staff and students within the team. Excellent communication skills are required and you must have the ability to work well on your own initiative, as well as part of a team. You should possess good organisational skills and be able to contribute to the development of flexible working arrangements within the team.
You must be clinically up to date with nursing skills and motivated to develop professionally, thus maintaining a well-developed, committed team in order to get it right for patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
Maintain and update clinical skills as part of the extended role of the nurse.
Be aware of clinical responsibilities, referring to the medical staff as appropriate
Participate in clinical audit and standard setting to ensure that the Care Groups responsibilities in terms of clinical governance are met
Be able to maintain a high standard of record keeping
Facilitate students and mentor/preceptor to junior members of staff (all disciplines).
Ensure effective communication with patients, relatives and colleagues.
Will be designated in charge of the ward/department in the absence of the Band 6/7
