Until Filled - Maintains regular availability to cover absences at various schools in order to remain active in the District’s substitute pool.
- Teaches the lesson as prepared by the full-time classroom teacher, in accordance with the District’s curriculum and in a manner that the students understand.
- Uses effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Appropriately utilizes the District’s instructional and technology resources, materials, and equipment as directed by the full-time classroom teacher.
- Maintains a positive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Maintains established routines, schedules, and procedures of the school and the classroom to which they are assigned, including:
- Taking student attendance;
- Monitoring and managing student behavior; and
- Ensuring that the classroom is clean and safe

- Performs related duties of the full-time teacher, including;

- Substitutes covering for a full-time teacher who will be absent for an extended period of time are responsible for:
- Attending faculty meetings, grade level team meetings, and in-service trainings;
- Developing lesson plans and student assessments per the long-term plan provided by the full-time teacher;
- Collaborating with other instructional staff, including social workers, counselors, speech language pathologists, and special education teachers;
- Grading student work, entering grades in the online gradebook, and issuing progress reports and final quarter grades;
- Communicating with parents/guardians as needed; and
- Conducting parent teacher conferences.

- Current and valid State of Illinois substitute teaching license.
- Ability to follow and implement lesson plans or long-term instructional plans left by the classroom teacher.
- Ability to follow written and verbal directions.
- Flexibility in terms of being open to working in a variety of classroom settings, including pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Patience and willingness to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
- $150 per day.
- $165 per day after working ten days in the District.
- $210 per day for a long-term assignment necessitated by a leave of absence or an open position.
- Pre-K – Grade 5 hours: 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Middle School hours: 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

Job Summary:
In the absence of a full-time classroom teacher, the substitute teacher provides instruction and manages the learning environment. In short-term situations, the substitute is responsible for following the lesson that has been planned by the teacher. In long-term situations, the substitute is responsible for planning for daily instruction, assessing students, grading, and communicating with families. If a teacher is absent for an extended period of time, the substitute may be provided with a detailed plan from the teacher that will guide them in terms of the content and skills that will need to be taught.
