      Leadership position for a responsible and dedicated professional to join the City’s Public Works Department. This role will support a reliable and collaborative department that seeks creative and innovative thinking and a commitment to getting things done.

      Day to Day Responsibilities:

      • Direct oversight of 5 full-time employees and one apprentice within the Fleet Section; coordination and management of all Fleet day-to-day operations as well as managing the City’s Capital Equipment Purchasing Program.
      • Oversee preventative maintenance and repair activities for a wide range of assets, including light-duty vehicles (sedans, police vehicles, pickup trucks, vans), medium-duty vehicles (dump trucks, bucket trucks) and heavy-duty and specialized equipment (fire apparatus, solid-waste packers, Vactor, chippers, excavation equipment, tractors, and specialty units).
      • Lead the structuring, organization, and implementation of an effective schedule and parts/fuel inventory system for all City equipment utilizing Fleet management software (currently CFA).
      • Work with all Departments and the Superintendent of Public Works in the specification, bidding, evaluation, and procurement of all City vehicles and equipment.
      • Strong communication and collaborative skills with fellow Fleet staff, vendors, and all City Departments.
      • Regular on-call availability of off-hours equipment needs, snow program involvement, and discussions with other Management staff.
      • 5 to 7 years’ experience in Fleet maintenance or equivalent fields of work preferred.
      • Supervisory experience preferred.
      • Fleet management software experience preferred.
      • Possess or have ability to attain a Class-A CDL driver’s license.
      • Ability to work alternate work hours for winter months, weekends, and when workload dictates.
      • Ability to perform work in all weather conditions, including rain and snow.

      Compensation & Benefits

      Salary: $102,823 - $125,940 DOQ

      Insurance: Medical (PPO/HMO), dental, vision

      Leave: 13 paid holidays, front-loaded vacation and sick time, parental leave

      Retirement: IMRF pension + 457(b)/Roth options
