      We are seeking an experienced scientist to be a Team Leader in the Enzyme Engineering and Biocatalysis department. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of people and projects within GSK’s Drug Substance and Development organization. With other department leaders you will be responsible for establishing the strategy, infrastructure, and internal capability to realize GSK’s ambitions for enzyme engineering and biocatalysis. This role requires in-depth knowledge of enzyme discovery, engineering and deployment from early drug discovery through commercial manufacture.

      This role will provide YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

      Key responsibilities:

      • Maintain a high level of relevant scientific expertise and visibility aligned to business requirements for team and self, expand the scientific capabilities of the department, and serve as a departmental and enterprise scientific resource for GSK.

      • Provide project level guidance of best practices and strategic options during enzyme engineering campaigns and broader platform modifications.

      • Work closely with chemists, biochemists, molecular biologists, NGS scientists, and bioinformaticians to identify and resolve barriers to protein evolution.

      • Support technology transfer activities to ensure timely execution of project delivery.

      • Work with Director and leadership team to ensure staff are appropriately skilled and trained to deliver departmental objectives.

      • Work with Director and leadership team to effectively manage staff performance and development.

      Basic Qualifications:

      We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

      • BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology with 6+ years of with industry experience in the chemical development space.

      • PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology with 2+ years of industry experience in the chemical development space.

      • Experience in modern methods for the discovery and engineering of enzymes.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

      • Track record or aptitude for people leadership, including training, developing, and managing talent.

      • Proven ability to motivate and inspire high performing teams, as well as effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.

      • Effective organizational skills, including ability to set, prioritize and achieve research goals.

      • Solid strategic thinking and excellent communication skills for developing/articulating program strategy, risk mitigation plans, and milestones.

      • Experience with nucleic acid chemistry (e.g. solid phase synthesis, liquid phase synthesis, synthesis of unnatural nucleosides).

      • Knowledge and application of automation technologies.

      • Experience with parallel experimentation, high throughput assay development, and Design of Experiments.

      • Strong scientific and analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to multitask efficiently, prioritize quickly and bring projects to conclusion.
