- The duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Preparing and presenting project outlines, briefs, progress reports, and PowerPoint presentations.
- Conducting technical reviews of traffic impact studies and traffic safety analyses.
- Performing field reviews and inspections.
- Collecting and analyzing preliminary traffic data and related information.
- Analyzing, researching, investigating and using sound engineering judgment to draw conclusions, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations to address transportation and traffic operational and traffic/bicycle/pedestrian safety issues and concerns.
- Assisting the Transportation Department with project management, including transportation master plans, bicycle master plans, traffic calming studies, traffic monitoring and management services, transit planning studies, bicycle and pedestrian safety studies, mobility/multi-modal studies, and conducting transportation surveys.
- Assisting the Transportation Department in reviewing preliminary and final engineering roadway plans to ensure pedestrian and bicyclist safety.
- Preparing comments, writing reports, correspondence and other documents pertaining to transportation projects and issues.
- Providing technical assistance on grant applications.
- Assisting in monitoring transit service operations.
- Performing other related work as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Planning and Urban Studies, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field from an accredited college or university program and considerable (2 - 4 years) professional engineering or planning experience. Master's degree in an aforementioned or related field is preferred and can substitute for experience on a year-to-year basis. Possession of the Engineer-In-Training Certificate is desired.
- Equivalent combination of training and experience beyond a Bachelor's degree in an aforementioned or related field.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through personal contact, telephone, e-mail, or fax.
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as but not limited to computers, computer software, calculator, copiers and fax machine.
- Work is generally performed in an office environment with field work as necessary
- The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, walk, stoop, hear, and use hand to finger coordination, handle, feel and operate office equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs related work as required.
- Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.
- Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City’s strategic plan.
This position performs professional work to assist the Transportation Department in transportation planning, traffic engineering/operations and other related work. Work involves performance of moderately difficult professional and technical work in transportation planning and traffic engineering and operations. In addition, work entails the evaluation, selection, and application of transportation engineering techniques, standards, and procedures; and design of less complex transportation projects. The incumbent will use sound professional and independent judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications to professional techniques and principles to recurring problems, in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Supervision is received from a higher level administrator, who reviews work through consultation and analysis of reports prepared. This job is not of a routine, clerical or ministerial nature and may require attendance at evening meetings including presentations to City Boards, neighborhood groups and other agencies as necessary.
