Job Description

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and less than one year of specialized training or education.
- Six months experience in a related field.
- Must maintain CLEET certification, First Aid, and CPR certifications throughout employment.

- The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets the requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
- Must possess or obtain basic Council Law Enforcement Education Training or Federal Law Enforcement Center certificate within 1 year of hire and maintain throughout employment.
- Must live within the reservation service area.
- Must meet and maintain periodic background adjudication for law enforcement.
- Must meet and maintain firearms qualifications semi-annually.
- Must meet and maintain eligibility for Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) deputation and have no restrictions from testifying in any federal, tribal, and state court while employed with Cherokee Nation Marshal Service (CNMS).
- Must pass and continue to pass the Police Officer Suitability Tests (POST) and/or the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality inventory (MMPI) throughout employment.
- Must comply with Cherokee Nation Office of the Marshal Policies, Procedures, and Code of Conduct.

- Patrol assigned areas to deter criminal activity and maintain order.
- Respond to calls for service, including emergencies, domestic disturbances, and traffic accidents.
- Conduct investigations, collect evidence, and prepare reports.
- Enforce tribal laws and ordinances, as well as applicable federal and state laws within Cherokee Nation jurisdiction.
- Make arrests as necessary.
- Provide community outreach and education programs.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies.
- Uphold the Cherokee Nation's core values of respect, integrity, responsibility, and balance.
- Provide prisoner transport as needed.
- Performs work under direct supervision.
- Handles basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Possesses beginning to working knowledge of subject matter
OverviewGENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs law enforcement work in the preservation of the peace; the prevention, detection, and investigation of crimes; the arrest or apprehension of violators; and the provision of assistance to citizens in emergencies, including the protection of civil rights; assure compliance with tribal, federal, state, county, and municipal laws and ordinances, and agency rules and regulations about law enforcement work.
