      Description

      The Technology Chief Financial Officer, (“Tech CFO ”) is responsible for financial leadership of Humana’s global Tech operations, including strategy and execution from new project prioritization and planning to ongoing operational run-the-business items for all the Tech spend, supporting the $90+ billion enterprise revenue. The role touches every part of the business and viewed as a terrific entry point that will ignite advancement opportunities beyond the initial role.

      Responsibilities

      The role ensures the Tech Finance function is providing strategic thought partnership to on current year and future year financial impacts of decision-making options. The individual will play an integral role in annual prioritization processes that influence ~$1B in spending and are aimed at supporting the long-term strategy of the organization as well as the growth ambitions of the business units while also ensuring a strong foundation of systems and core infrastructure. The magnitude of the role is heightened by the current technological transformation of the company, both in terms of the prominence that technology is playing as well as in the nature of the technology used (e.g., shifting more towards cloud-based infrastructure). This position is responsible for identifying key business and financial trends and developing action plans to position the company and its business units for effective cost management and efficiency. The Tech CFO will be critical to ensure the Tech Finance function is a true partner to the business units and multiple stakeholders.

      Specifically, the Tech CFO will:

      -Leads a team of ~45 to drive outcomes and accountability for the ~$3B enterprise IT budget. Deliver results and insights balancing short-term and long-term financial planning and growth opportunities.

      • Strategy enabler / thought partner to the business around new initiatives and impact.
      • Partner to the businesses on understanding the controllable levers of IT spending and the value associated with them (contractor and associate rate mix, drop-down costs, cloud transition cost/benefit analysis).
      • Identifies and drives value-added, business building, productivity and cost saving initiatives.
      • Partners closely with key internal partners to drive better cost & spending planning and, importantly, value / benefits from the spending.

      -Prepares and presents to CIO on weekly basis on trends and issues, as well as the Humana CFO and broader Management Team the monthly, quarterly and annual financial and leads discussion on business and financial results

      • Produces KPI and balanced scorecard reports
      • Provides financial picture of the businesses in support of segment ambitions around ROIC targets, Pre-tax targets, underwriting margin targets and admin improvement targets.
      • Drives executive level conversations with Management Team (MT) and MT+1 during strategic prioritization conversations in deep partnership with corporate strategy team.

      -Key partner to drive decisions and facilitate trade-offs on Tech prioritization process and related budget (and benefits associated with that budget)

      • This process houses >10 of the enterprises key strategic initiatives and the role would be playing an increasingly “front and center” role in ensuring the organization is achieving its strategic transformation objectives

      -Responsible for establishing key relationships with executives and the development of operational and capital budgets. Establishes processes for timely review of actual performance against approved budgets, with emphasis on identifying and recommending performance improvement where necessary.

      -Verifies and analyzes financial information, technology trends, and economic indicators so that senior management has accurate and timely information for making strategic and operational decisions on, for example, acquisitions, investments, capital expenditure, divestitures, mergers, or the sale of assets.

      • Partners to ensure appropriate internal controls and safeguards of company assets are in place and working.
      • Provides oversight and leadership of the Tech contract review team, responsible for validating complex and technically nuanced multi-year contracts.
      • Provides additional oversight of the general accounting team and all financial and statistical reporting needs of Tech operations.
      • Ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and integrity throughout the financial Tech organization.

      Required Qualifications

      • 15 years’ + progressive financial leadership experience with teams greater than 20 FTEs
      • Hands-on financial experience in a large-cap operational / business partnering finance capacity; ideally including ownership of corporate functional budgets, such as Technology
      • Functional accounting experience such as cost accounting, financial planning and analysis, and/or public accounting is valuable
      • Experience in a global finance function or P&L in a Fortune 50 global company
      • Led through a technology transformation/public cloud migration – managing investments in new capabilities, data and application transition costs, actions to align cloud and data center ramp-up/down
      • History in changing the cost allocation model for a large, complex organization
      • Connects the dots and drive storytelling, presenting, painting the picture to aide in understanding and decision making
      • Ability to get deep in the weeds but then pull that back up and anticipate the questions/issues that folks will ask - help “look around the corner”
      • Ability to drive understanding on current year prioritization variances and drop-down cost linkages
      • Strong bias for change and ability to drive change
      • Ability/agility to grow beyond the initial role
      • Exceptional interpersonal skills, business savvy, and passion for creating the new and different - by simplifying, standardizing, and automating
      • Penchant for driving efficiencies and making money to leverage for other purpose
      • A creative, critical thinker, with the ability to lead, inspire and develop a team
      • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
