      Job summary

      The Ward Host position is to serve/assist with patient meals and beverages.

      This is a patient focused job, providing a high-quality housekeeping, food and domestic service to patients, staff, and visitors. Undertaking necessary duties to ensure the upkeep of a clean and hygienic environment within the hospital and associated areas. These duties will be carried out, both in patient, and non-patient environments and may also entail basic food preparation and specialised cleaning tasks.

      To be responsive to service needs as they arise and to constantly seek to improve the productivity and quality of the service.

      SWFT Clinical Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of the South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT). The company provides a number of services such as outpatient pharmacy facilities at Warwick, Stratford upon Avon, George Eliot, University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire and St Cross (Rugby) hospitals; estates and facilities management at Warwick, Stratford upon Avon and Ellen Badger hospitals, Acorn House and Lillington Health Hub; private patient service and consultancy services to NHS Trusts.

      Subject to the Company and individual's performance, an annual discretionary bonus will be awarded.

      There is automatic enrolment to the Company pension scheme, with the Company contributing 5%.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      Maintaining a clean and safe environment and to serve/assist with patient meals and beverages in full compliance with food hygiene standards and regulations and in accordance with the specification and current ward requirements.

      Undertaking necessary duties to ensure the upkeep of a clean and hygienic environment within the hospital and associated areas. These duties will be carried out, both in patient, and non-patient environments and may also entail basic food preparation and specialised cleaning tasks. To be responsive to service needs as they arise and to constantly seek to improve the productivity and quality of the service.

      The effective delivery of housekeeping/hostess services and all hygiene standards within a designated area and all its facilities. Complying with the work schedule and using appropriate methods of work, ensuring any service level agreement and quality standards are met in line with Company and Trust policies.

      Where appropriate ensure the required standard of presentation and temperature of meals and beverages including food probing and completion of appropriate records, is met.

      Collection, safe removal and, where appropriate, the recording of waste within your area of work, in line with Company procedures and Trust policies.

      Safe storage and maintenance of appropriate stock and supplies ensuring that these are available as required within the designated area. You may also be required to collate and order menu choices.

      Ensure confidentiality, privacy and dignity is always maintained in accordance with the Data Protection Act and in line with Company and Trust policy, where appropriate.

      Ensure you understand and comply with all relevant current legislation as set out in Company and Trust policies and procedures and the related documentation, including the Employee Terms & Conditions Handbook, Employee Health, Safety and Environmental Handbook and security procedures.

      Use all mechanical and electrical equipment in a correct and safe manner, using appropriate methods of work, following training.

      Maintain a clean, neat, and tidy appearance, complying with Company and Trust uniform and hand care guidelines and high standards of personal hygiene.

      Participate as required, in regular team meetings, performance reviews, job chats, return to work discussions and co-operate with accident and other investigations.

      Engage in the process to identify your own personal development and training needs and attending agreed training programmes.

      Report immediately, to your line manager and/or other relevant person any faults or defects to Trust or Company equipment or premises, especially those which could be dangerous.

      Any other duties as may be reasonably requested within the grade of the post.
