      Position Highlights

      The Communications and Cyber Technologies department (CCT - https://cct.arizona.edu) relies on cutting-edge technology and agile methodologies to develop vibrant web applications. We are searching for an experienced JavaScript developer who is familiar with modern, progressive frameworks (e.g., Vue.js, Nuxt.js, Next.js) to build and deliver quality web applications while evolving our technology stack. Day to day, this person will be responsible for all front-end aspects, from developing complex applications to ensuring a positive user experience. The ideal candidate will have an eye for design, a keen on code organization, and an ability to create clean, sharp, and responsive layouts using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. This developer will join an amazing development and design team that’s continually being inspired by the latest technologies while creating impactful solutions.

      Our organizational home in the Division of Agriculture, Life, and Veterinary Sciences & Cooperative Extension (ALVSCE) leads the University of Arizona in the areas of sustainable agriculture, bio-based industries, the environment, natural resources, family and youth development, and community development. Examples of the challenges that ALVSCE and this position will be taking on include:

      • Reducing insecticide for growers
      • Improving management of rangelands and open space
      • Looking for cancer cures in desert plants
      • Harvesting solar and bio-fuels for energy production
      • Protecting our communities and natural resources against wildfire and drought
      • Finding ways to extend our water supply
      • Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to disseminate information

      Duties & Responsibilities

      Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Developing and maintaining web applications: Writing, modifying, and debugging web applications using Node.js, Javascript, HTML, and CSS. Supporting systems infrastructure in terms of continuous builds and deployment
      • Collaborating with researchers and stakeholders: Support and work closely with researchers and stakeholders to understand their needs and to collaborate on projects
      • Ensuring data privacy, compliance, and security: You will need to ensure that the applications you develop comply with relevant laws and regulations regarding data privacy and protection, while protecting the University's data and systems from unauthorized access and potential cyber threats
      • Project management and organization: collaborate with the design team to gather requirements from stakeholders to scope out primary objectives. Break down development tasks into logical organizational units
      • Staying current with emerging technologies: You will need to keep up with emerging technologies and best practices in web development to ensure that the applications you develop are efficient, secure, easy to maintain and user-friendly

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):

      • Proficiency in JavaScript: Have a strong understanding of the JavaScript language, including its syntax, data structures, state management, inheritance, and the prototype chain
      • Knowledge of front-end technologies: Have experience with HTML, CSS, and modern front-end frameworks like Vue.js, React, or Angular
      • Familiarity with version control: Be familiar with version control systems like Git and knowledgeable of how to use them for collaborative development and continuous deployments
      • Knowledge of web security: Possess an understanding of web security principles and best practices, including authentication and authorization
      • Problem-solving skills: Able to analyze complex problems and come up with effective solutions to address them
      • Ability to pay attention to detail: Be detail-oriented and able to ensure the quality of your code through testing, debugging, and code reviews
      • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team. Will be working with other developers, designers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality web applications
      • Continuous learning: Committed to continuous learning and keeping up with the latest trends and technologies in web development
      Minimum Qualifications
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required
      • And minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience required
      Preferred Qualifications
      • Experience on GitHub or other platform with a Portfolio to showcase
      • Experience with how front end applications interact with back end services: API development, REST or GraphQL, file storage and web sockets
      • Experience with server-less technologies (e.g. Amazon Web Services: DynamoDB, S3, Lambda functions) including the deployment and management of resources
      • Experienced with back-end development: Have experience with server-side or serverless development, including database and API development (REST or GraphQL) and security permissions and best practices
      • Experience with databases including SQL and/or NoSQL databases, and be able to design and optimize database schemas, access patterns and performance
      • Experience with GIS web solutions, specifically the implementation of web map players g. Esri ArcGIS, Leaflet)
