Medical Technician

About the Position: This position is located at Madigan Army Medical Center, Directorate of Clinical Support, Department of Pathology and Area Laboratory Services, in Tacoma, Washington.

Duties

• Perform waived-complexity testing and phlebotomy, primarily in the Okubo Soldier Centered Medical Home Laboratory on JBLM, in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures and Policies.
• Verify correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks.
• Operate laboratory computer system which includes placing orders, logging samples, and entering test results.
• Determine appropriateness of incoming specimens (i.e. timing of specimen collection, potential interference, proper specimen type, etc.).
• Prepare specimens for shipment to the Madigan Main Laboratory.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing
• This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• Will be required to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Subject to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
• This position has a requirement to lift up to 20 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
• Must possess or must obtain and maintain Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) prior entrance on duty.
