Staff Accountant

Location: Remote (Must be able to commute to Manhattan, NY at least twice per month)

About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly analytical and proactive Staff Accountant to join a growing global organization operating across media, research, and events. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with finance leadership while owning key accounting functions that support business operations and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Prepare monthly financial reporting packages, including Profit & Loss (P&L) statements and Balance Sheet analyses
• Perform bank, cash, intercompany, and payment platform reconciliations
• Support Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions
• Assist with cash flow forecasting and cash management activities
• Record, reconcile, and analyze payroll transactions
• Support budgeting, variance analysis, and commission calculations
• Assist with annual audits, tax reporting, and compliance requirements
• Maintain accurate accounting documentation, SOPs, and internal controls
• Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes
• Partner with finance leadership to improve operational efficiency and reporting accuracy

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 2+ years of accounting experience
• Experience owning or directly supporting a full month-end close cycle
• Advanced experience with QuickBooks Online
• Strong Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, including P&L and Balance Sheet reports
• Hands-on experience with journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Knowledge of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while managing multiple priorities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with bookkeeping and full-cycle accounting
• Exposure to payroll accounting and cash flow forecasting
• Experience supporting audits and compliance activities
• Familiarity with automation tools, AI platforms, or process improvement initiatives
• Experience working in a high-growth, fast-paced business environment

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New York, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
