    • Howland Local Schools is seeking a dynamic, student-centered leader to serve as Athletics/Activities Director. This is a 230-day administrative contract position reporting directly to the Superintendent. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for all district extracurricular and co-curricular programs while working collaboratively with school officials and the community to initiate and maintain successful programs for kids.
    • The Athletics/Activities Director is responsible for the comprehensive administration, coordination, and supervision of the district's athletic programs, student activities, clubs, and related events. This individual will ensure programs align with the district's mission, promote student engagement, and reflect the highest standards of integrity, sportsmanship, and educational excellence.
    • Personnel Management: Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate all head coaches and activity advisors (e.g., Yearbook, Student Council, NHS).
    • Event Oversight: Coordinate and supervise home events, including the assignment of site managers, security, and game-day workers.
    • Program Assessment: Evaluate the effectiveness of student organizations and athletic teams to ensure high-quality instruction and student engagement.
    • Provide leadership and oversight for all extra and co-curricular programs.
    • Supervise, evaluate, and support coaches, advisors, and activity sponsors.
    • Ensure compliance with all district policies, state regulations, and governing entities and affiliations.
    • Develop and manage program budgets responsibly and transparently.
    • Coordinate scheduling of events, facilities, transportation, and game management, including the assignment of site managers, security, and game-day workers.
    • Promote positive school culture and student participation across all activities.
    • Serve as liaison between the district and community organizations, booster groups, and external partners.
    • Maintain clear and proactive communication with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
    • Support risk management, safety protocols, and emergency preparedness at all events and around the campus.
    • Collaborate with building administrators to align activities with academic priorities.
    • Administrative Direction: Develop and maintain the district-wide activities calendar to prevent facility and scheduling conflicts.
    • Budgeting & Fundraising: Administer departmental funds, approve purchase orders for equipment, and oversee booster club or student-led fundraising activities.
    • Student Support: Monitor student eligibility, academic progress, and insurance requirements for all participants.
    • Operations & Safety: Arrange student transportation, manage facility usage, and oversee safety protocols, including concussion management and CPR certifications for staff.
    • Community Relations: Act as the primary liaison between the district, families, local media, and community organizations.
    • Program Assessment: Evaluate the effectiveness of student organizations and athletic teams to ensure high-quality instruction and student engagement.
    • Education: Master's degree in educational administration
    • Valid administrative licensure appropriate for the State of Ohio
    • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in administration or successful coaching/advising at the secondary level.
    • Demonstrated experience in athletic administration, student activities supervision, or school leadership.
    • Knowledge of state athletic association regulations and compliance standards.
    • Proven experience in budgeting, personnel supervision, Title IX, and program development.
