      PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The City of Aurora is continually searching for enthusiastic Aqua Fitness Instructors who are ready to make a serious splash.

      We’re not just looking for someone who can swim; we need a natural leader. Think of the pool as your personal amphitheater ?. You are the maestro ?‍ leading a group of individuals while leading exercises, conducting a liquid orchestra of safe, dynamic movement.

      This role is perfect if you are comfortable and confident standing up front. You’ll be responsible for specialized aquatic fitness instruction. Your main duty involves overseeing the safety of patrons while instructing a constructive water fitness class. Our classes vary, covering everything from generalized water fitness and arthritis programs to deep water fitness and even Paddleboard fitness ?‍♀️. If you can maintain a safe environment at the work site and bring great energy, we want to talk to you ?.

      This job announcement is to collect candidate applications for current and future Aquatics Fitness Instructors. Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified and their qualifications match the position's requirements.

      Hiring Salary is $22.00/hour.

      Must be 18 at the time of hire.

      The hours for this role range from 2 to 10 hours.

      This position is classified as a VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), meaning the selected candidate will work fewer than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act.

      The City of Aurora is continually searching for enthusiastic Aqua Fitness Instructors to perform a variety of routine tasks related to specialized aquatic fitness instruction.

      PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

      • Responsible for overseeing the safety of water fitness patrons while instructing a dynamic, safe, and constructive water fitness class
      • Classes vary from arthritis, generalized water fitness, Paddleboard fitness, log rolling, and deep water fitness classes.

      Performs other related duties as assigned

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

      An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • None

      Knowledge:

      • Knowledge of pool safety and emergency action plans.
      • Knowledge of different aqua fitness techniques and styles, i.e. deep water fitness, arthritis classes, etc.

      Skills:

      • Skill in water fitness techniques and emergency response.
      • Skilled in customer relations
      • Basic teaching skills
      • comfortable and confident in leading a group of individuals while leading exercises.

      Abilities:

      • Ability to maintain a safe environment at work site.

      Licenses and Certifications Required:

      • Accredited national water fitness certification,
      • Standard first aid and CPR certification or equivalent program certification.

      WORKING CONDITIONS

      As you complete the below sections, please select the appropriate ADA compliant frequency level as defined below:

      • Infrequent - May occur, but not daily
      • Seldom - Occurs less than 30 minutes a shift
      • Occasional - Occurs up to 31 minutes to 2.5 hours per shift
      • Frequent - 2.6 hours to 5.5 hours per shift
      • Continuous - Occurs more than 5.6 hours per shift

      Essential Personnel:

      • When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

      Physical Demands:

      • Moderate physical work requiring the ability to lift a maximum of 25 pounds; regular walking and standing; regular climbing, bending, kneeling, and crouching; hand/foot/eye coordination to perform and demonstrate appropriate fitness skills; vision to read instructions; hearing and speech communication for communication with employees and citizens.

      Work Environment:

      • Works both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, water, and other conditions found in an aquatic environment.

      Equipment Used:

      Operates equipment related to aquatic fitness classes.
