      Position: Assistant Professor of Theatre & Director of Technical Theatre

      Department: College of Arts & Sciences

      Status: Full Time

      Position Summary:

      A tenure track position for an Assistant Professor of Theatre and Director of Technical Theatre for the Theatre Arts Department in the Division of Fine Arts as a part of the College of Arts & Sciences. The position load will include teaching Technical Theatre courses, designing sets and lights for theatrical productions, and operating and maintaining the Scene Shop (including overseeing student crews and paid assistants) as well as potential general theatre course instruction based on candidate’s expertise and experience.

      Other responsibilities include academic advising, scholarly activity, and university service. Candidates must be committed to liberal arts education, support the mission of the University, and be dedicated to excellence in undergraduate teaching, mentoring students, service, and scholarship.

      Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

      • Teach Technical and General Theatre courses as needed

      • Evaluate student work, administer tests, assignments, etc. that permit measurement of knowledge, abilities, and/or performance relative to the course learning objectives

      • Support student accommodations outlined by Office of Student Success, Disability Services

      • Complete student record keeping in a timely and accurate manner, including grades and attendance

      • Follow guidelines for each course provided by department

      • Post grades as required by Registrar following procedures and policies Administer final exams according to university guidelines

      • Participate in departmental, faculty and staff meetings as requested

      • Participate in Departmental services such as advising, recruiting, and other department administrative responsibilities

      • Participate in development and implementation of curriculum, inclusive of departmental learning objectives

      • Design sets and lights for theatrical productions

      • Manage operations and maintain equipment in Theatre Scene Shop and Ellis Theater, including overseeing student workers and maintaining safety procedures and records

      • Participate in University committees as assigned

      • Support the mission of Campbell University

      • Uphold and abide by Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX ,and Information Security including FERPA, and other state and federal regulations

      • Exercise independent judgment and maintain strict confidentiality

      • Maintain timely and positive communication with students, staff, and faculty at all times

      • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times

      • Other duties, responsibilities and activities as assigned

      Education/Experience:

      Minimum Qualifications:

      • Master’s degree with at least 18 graduate hours in theatre with an emphasis in Design or Technical Theatre

      • Commitment to excellence, and support for the University’s mission

      • A commitment to safety

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Terminal degree (MFA) in design (or technical theatre) with General Theatre

      • Demonstrated teaching experience at university level preferred

      • Two years of supervisory experience/professional experience in theatrical lighting, sound, and/or scenic experience

      • Professional or academic lighting design experience

      Kn owledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Strong communication, critical thinking, and time management skills.

      • Ability to communicate effectively to colleagues outside of specialization and collaborate effectively

      • Ability to budget for and build sets and lighting design elements utilizing student crews

      • Adherence to a high level of safety standards

      • Evidence of competency in computer-aided drafting applications

      • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn, utilize, or adapt to new and emerging technology

      • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and common methods of digital communication including web/text/chat platforms

      • Knowledge of Blackboard Ultra Learning Management System or ability to learn Blackboard

      • Ability to adapt to changing student needs

      • Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with, faculty, staff, students, university officials and the public

      • Exercise independent judgement and maintain strict confidentiality as necessary

      • Ability to work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
