      • Trainer

      Assistant Trainer positions develop, instruct and evaluate a variety of training classes; conduct department-wide training needs assessments; consult with and counsel department employees regarding training and certification requirements and training-related career development; develop, evaluate, and facilitate a variety of technical training and educational courses using instructional design best practices; conduct or direct analytical studies; prepare and analyze reports of findings and make recommendations regarding training and development programs; enter training data into the City’s Learning Management System: assemble training packages, manuals, handouts, tailgate manuals, presentations and job aids; and perform other duties as assigned.


      NOTES:

      • Eligible benefitted employees originally hired on or after July 10, 2021, will be automatically enrolled in the San Diego City Employees Retirement System (SDCERS).
      • Assistant Trainer positions may be required to lift objects of moderate weight (up to 30lbs).
      • Assistant Trainer positions may be required to work outside in conditions of heat, which may, on occasion, reach above 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
      • Assistant Trainer positions may be required to work in an occupational setting with potential exposure to an industrial and/or environmental atmosphere that may reach above 85db.
      You must meet the following requirements on the date you apply, unless otherwise indicated.

      EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education (i.e., minimum completed units = 120 semester/180 quarter).

      NOTE:

      • Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for education lacked on a year-for-year basis. One year of full-time experience = 30 semester/45 quarter college-level units.

      EXPERIENCE: You must meet ONE of the following options:

      1. One year of full-time professional-level experience developing, administering or presenting/facilitating adult education programs, adult training programs and/or adult structured learning programs.
      2. Two years of full-time professional-level experience in Human Resources, Parks and Recreation Operations, Customer Service, or Occupational Health and Safety functions, which MUST include six months of full-time professional-level experience developing, administering or presenting/facilitating adult structured learning programs.
      3. Two years of full-time professional-level experience developing multimedia presentations/materials for adult structured learning programs to include computer-based training, E-learning or simulation applications.


      NOTES:

      • A Master's Degree in Education, Instructional Design, Instructional Media Technology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or a closely related field may be substituted for a MAXIMUM of one year of the required experience.
      • Experience gained in a managerial function does NOT qualify unless the primary function of the managerial experience involves training or development activities.
      • Supervisor's tailgate training is NOT qualifying.
      • City of San Diego employees using Out-of-Class Assignment (OCA) experience to qualify must submit written documentation signed by their appointing authority or payroll specialist, detailing the work performed, dates, and total number of qualifying OCA hours. OCA experience without the required documentation will NOT be considered.


      LICENSE : A valid California Class C Driver License may be required at the time of hire.

      HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

      • Experience developing or producing audio visual content using training-related software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Teams, Articulate Rise/Storyline, Zoom, SAP SuccessFactors Learning, Linkedin Learning, Adobe software products, or uPerform within training industry standard learning management systems.
      • Experience with Water/Wastewater Operation, Human Resources, Parks and Recreation, Safety and/or Customer Service-related training programs.
