      Benefits Analyst I - Leave Administration

      Come join our collaborative and passionate team! The City of Colorado Springs Human Resources team is seeking an Benefits Analyst I to support employee benefits, wellness programs, and leave administration. In this role, you'll work closely with teammates to help administer leave programs, coordinate benefits, and assist employees and new hires with benefit and leave-related questions and orientation support.


      As a Benefits Analyst I, you will:
      • Administer employee leave and accommodation programs, including Family Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Healthy Families and Workplaces Act, Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance, Military Leave, and related programs.
      • Process, track, and maintain leave and accommodation records to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
      • Collect and analyze leave data, monitor usage trends, and support compliance reporting and audits.
      • Prepare routine and ad hoc reports on leave activity, accommodations, and program outcomes.
      • Respond to employee, manager, and retiree inquiries regarding leave eligibility, rights, and policies and procedures.
      • Coordinate leave administration with Human Resources, payroll, legal counsel, and disability vendors.
      • Support implementation and improvement of leave administration processes, procedures, and documentation.
      • Assist with operational problem-solving related to leave cases and program administration.
      • Develop and update employee communications and reference materials related to leave and accommodations.
      • Participate in additional HR projects and program support activities as needed.

      Candidates who are successful in the role have:
      Knowledge of:
      • Methods and techniques of data collection, research, and report preparation

      • Benefit-related laws and regulations, including Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPAA), and Patient Portability and Affordable Care Act (PPACA)

      • Modern office technology and support (especially Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)

      Ability to:
      • Stay up to date on changes to laws, regulations, ordinances, resolutions, and department policies
      • Maintain knowledge of benefits programs and leave program administration to maximize utilization of benefits available
      • Work in a fast-paced environment and be a solutions-oriented team player
      • Work collaboratively with all departments
      • Seek information from various sources and initiate projects
      • Deliver new hire orientation and other training programs
      • Navigate conversations balancing both empathy and objectivity
      • High level of accuracy with a strong attention to detail

      • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in human resources, business administration, public administration, or a related field

      • One year of full-time, professional experience in human resources.
