As a Shift Captain at MOD you will take your first step in learning skills and behaviors needed for leadership as part of your responsibilities. You will lead restaurant operations during scheduled shifts. At times, you will be the most senior Squad member working the shift, and you will be responsible for coordination of team performance in all essential restaurant tasks during that limited time. You will support the Store Coach and GM in overall restaurant operations and serve as a lead to MOD Squad and All Stars who work alongside you, providing feedback, answering questions, and giving guidance. As a MOD Shift Captain your objective is to model, teach and demonstrate the MOD’s purpose in all interactions. You are responsible for setting the Squad up for success for the shift. You will lead by example and focus on guiding the Squad and delivering the best possible MOD experience on every shift.
In this position you will flex the needs of the restaurant, coordinating and sometimes doing, but always keeping the MOD experience at the front of your mind.
Essential Job Functions
As a Shift Captain you have an ownership mentality to ensure the restaurant is welcoming, runs smoothly is clean and organized and is meeting MOD’s overall standards. Lead the shift by doing the following key tasks:
• Live the TSFR Road Map Components.
• Set and sustain the tone of the shift by keeping the energy high and creating a positive vibe with the goal of providing a welcoming atmosphere for BOTH Squad and customers
• Works with management for quality and safety of all food by using MOD tools and standards to ensure the food is safe in BOTH Front and Back of house. This includes tasting food at beginning of the shift, validating all food is prepped and restaurant d to standards and reporting any food outages.
• Conduct PEPP talks (Prepare, Elevate, People and Purpose) at the beginning of shifts
• Complete the deployment chart according to MOD standards and ensure all Squad members are aware of their roles.
• Coordinate changes due to callouts and whenever the guest’s needs or business changes during the shift.
• Listen, acknowledge and work with management to resolve any Squad member and/or guest concerns in the absence of management. Escalate issues that require resolution to the STore coach or GM as appropriate.
• Manage cash within the shift in an accurate and responsible manner including making change, accessing cash in the safe, processing refunds, etc
• Take inventory and place orders as needed and directed by the GM.
• Keyholder responsible for ensuring adherence to all Opening/Midday/Closing checklists and using all tools available to execute on requirements in a timely manner.
• Celebrate the wins with your TEAM.
• Regularly review email in order to stay updated on and communicate any information from the Slice, Sauce and other relevant sources as needed for Squad members to be effective in their roles during the shift.
• Responsible for coaching in the moment and communicating to the GM all Squad members’ skill gaps and opportunities for improvement
• Address/escalate any equipment malfunctions to ensure a safe guest and squad environment and a consistent MOD experience
• Communicate the shift status/update to the Store coach or GM as appropriate
• Maintain a regular and continued focus on the growth and well-being of the Squad.
Educational / Experience
Required Qualifications:
• Minimum 3 months in the All Star position (or the equivalent) and demonstrate quality coaching, training and multi-tasking within the shift (any exceptions require AD approval, with GM visibility)
• Minimum of 1 year of guest service or restaurant experience
• Proactively identify and assess priority tasks within the shift (i.e. deploy resources in order of importance)
• Reliable transportation
• Must be at least 18 years old
• Previous experience coaching, teaching and inspiring others
• Must enjoy connecting with people (Squad + customers), TEAM building and helping others succeed
• Proven success in following and enforcing processes and standards; correcting and coaching in a compassionate manner.
• Strong guest service skills and a proven ability to remain calm and focused in fast paced and stressful situations.
• Ability to absorb and adapt to change with a positive attitude.
• Must obtain a food safety certification and/or alcohol beverage certification within 30 days of your start date or sooner where required by law.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Finger Dexterity : Using primarily the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together.
Talking : Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly or quickly.
Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.
Repetitive Motions : Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
Visual: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense, understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.
Mathematics Ability : Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing two digit numbers, to perform the four basic arithmetic operations with money; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot and yard, ounce and pound.
Language Ability : Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Must be physically able to work at any duty station in the kitchen or service area when needed on a temporary basis and operate cash register as appropriate. Have the ability to stand and walk for approximately 95-100% of shift including the ability to bend, reach and lift. May be required to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
