      Compensation and Benefits:

      Base Salary is p er 2026-27 Salary Schedule plus an Annual Flat Salary Stipend.

      Total gross salary for BA, Step 1 is $52,896.00. (Salary is $43,896.00 + $9000 annual flat salary stipend.)

      FPS values professional growth and supports a New Teacher Mentorship Program.

      New Teachers are offered a one-time salary advance opportunity to increase their August paycheck. We want to assist in all ways possible through the transition into the teaching profession.

      Paid Leave: 4 Personal Days; 9 Sick Days; 5 Bereavement Days; Civic Leave; and Professional Leave as determined by administrators. Certified staff also administer a Sick Leave Bank that all certified staff are eligible to join on an annual basis. Teachers who are parents or guardians of an FPS student can also use up to 4 sick days, per year, to attend FPS-sponsored activities for their child.

      Retirement: FPS is a member of the Nebraska Public Employee Retirement System and contributes to the defined plan per Nebraska statute

      FPS provides all certified team members long term disability, a $10,000 individual life insurance policy, and quarterly perfect attendance bonus opportunities.

      JOB DESCRIPTION

      JOB TITLE : Special Education Teacher - Resource 1

      REQUIREMENTS:

      Education Level:

      • Bachelor's Degree or Master’s Degree

      Certification/Licensure:

      • Nebraska Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement in Special Education.

      Experience Desired:

      • Training and teaching in areas of regular and special education with emphasis on Specific Learning Disabilities, Behavior Disorders, and At-Risk Students

      Other Requirements:

      • Knowledge of psycho-educational diagnosis, instructional techniques and materials, methods for individualizing instruction, and developmentally appropriate curriculum
      • Knowledge in behavior modification and management

      REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education and Building Principal

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

      The essential functions of each employee’s position includes (1) regular, dependable in-person attendance on the job; (2) the ability to perform the identified tasks and to possess and utilize the identified knowledge, skills, and abilities and to perform the identified work activities; and (3) the ability to perform the physical requirements on their specific job description.

      Basic:

      Plan and implement (with guidance from the Director of Special Education and administrators, etc.) necessary and appropriate programming to direct students with special needs and/or disabilities to become competent in all areas of academic and social development. Develop and implement appropriate pre-vocational skills activities.

      Frequent:

      1. Meets and instructs assigned students at the locations and times designated.
      2. Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the District.
      3. Plans a program of study and assists in modifications that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students and utilizes a variety of analytical, evaluative, and formative techniques suitable to the curriculum content, including the modification of curriculum when required for special needs students.
      4. Assists in the diagnosis of disabilities for students and seeks the assistance of District specialists as required.
      5. Collaborates with other teachers and members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods that represent the desired outcomes for instruction and Essential Learning Skills for students, including activities and modifications of programs.
      6. Assists in the selection of books, equipment, assistive communication devices, and other instructional materials, and suggests modifications as/if needed.
      7. Plans and supervises appropriate assignments for teacher assistants.
      8. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student conduct/activities; develops, for the classroom, reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
      9. Supervises and participates in fire drills and other emergency preparedness programs.
      10. Follows the policies, regulations, procedures, and expectations established by the Board and administration.
      11. Addresses students’ personal hygiene needs (toileting, clothes changing, etc.)
      12. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis using a variety of assessment methods (e.g. authentic assessment, performance-based, formative, etc.) and provides progress reports as required.
      13. Maintains accurate and complete records of attendance, absences, tardies, and other information as required by law, District Policy, and Administrative Regulations.
      14. Develops, writes, and implements behavior modification programs.
      15. Prepares records for individual students receiving services through the IEP process.
      16. Communicates and consults with students, parents, and professional staff regarding educational programs, IEP/MDT processes, and other pertinent areas.
      17. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
      18. Participates in professional growth through an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, inservices, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.
      19. Completes special projects and performs other responsibilities and miscellaneous duties as assigned.
