What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Examine medical records to ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and reflective of the patient’s clinical status
- Detect inconsistencies and request provider clarifications as necessary
- Verify that clinical documentation supports correct coding for proper reimbursement
- Communicate with physicians and clinical staff to improve documentation practices
- Assist in internal and external audits by ensuring proper documentation
What is Required (Qualifications):
- BSN or equivalent; RN (Registered Nurse) license
- Minimum of 5 years of inpatient clinical experience, with 2-5 years in clinical documentation improvement
- Current Maryland license and relevant certification (e.g., CDIP or CCDS)
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and disease processes
- Maintains current knowledge of Coding Clinic Guidelines and federal updates to the DRG system
