      Up to 1 temporary full-time position for up to 4 months intended specifically for students currently enrolled in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Data Analytics, GIS, Digital Humanities or related equivalent post-secondary diploma or degree program, commencing in April/May 2026

      The City of Edmonton is seeking a Public Engagement Data & GIS summer student to support the Community Engagement team in the Integrated Communications branch. This role focuses on engagement data analysis, ArcGIS mapping and overlaying, interested and affected parties database development, and supporting equity-centred and data-informed public engagement tools.

      As a part of the team, you may:

      • Support the development and implementation of equity-centred and data-informed engagement tools, databases and dashboards
      • Support Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) data updates using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
      • Retrieve, update, curate, and enhance socio-demographic data
      • Gather, clean, organize, analyze, synthesize and report on engagement data
      • Assist with designing and developing engagement databases and dashboards
      • Demonstrate the City’s Cultural Commitments of Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent as well as the seven commitments made to reconciliation through the City’s Indigenous Framework
      • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary diploma or degree program in Urban Planning, Geography/Human Geography, Public Policy, Social Sciences, Data Analytics, GIS, Digital Humanities or a related field
      • Experience using ArcGIS Pro, LookerStudio and AppSheet
      • Experience working with datasets, spreadsheets, or databases (e.g., Google Sheets)
      • Experience using Google Workspace applications or equivalent applications

      Assets:

      • Experience with public engagement, equity analysis, or community research
      • Familiarity with SVI, GBA+, accessibility, or socio-demographic datasets
      • Experience using Looker Studio, AppSheet, or dashboards
      • Experience working with large Google Sheets and contact lists

      • Ability to translate data insights into practical engagement planning outputs

      Work Environment:

      • Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
      • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

      Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday

      Salary: $21.586 - $27.472
