      Job summary

Whole-Time Consultant in General Internal Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrinology to Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust based at NGH.

We would welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers.

Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Should any further vacancies arise shortlisted applicants will be considered.

      Main duties of the job

This post has been developed as part of a broader ongoing re-organisation and expansion of the Department of Medicine and improvement of the care of General Internal Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrinology patients. The department manages many specialist and general medical wards. In addition, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals is one of the largest Trusts in the country and provides extensive specialist care both locally and regionally to patients with Diabetes and Endocrinology. Recognising the increasingly complex and multi-comorbid nature of modern in-patient working, over the last few years the trust has re-established General (Internal) Medicine wards in response to the increasing demand of inpatient non-elective care and appointed a growing body of consultants and resident doctors to oversee them. There are strong links with Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology and Acute medicine. The role would suit those who would like to offer high-quality general medical care to their patients in a university teaching hospital with all the attendant advantages of training/education and research.

More details about the duties of the post can be found in the Job Description.

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
