      POSITION DESCRIPTION

      POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of Preschool

      REPORTS TO: Building Principal / Superintendent / Director of SPED

      Classification: Exempt

      WORKDAYS: 163 Days + 9 Extended Contract Days

      POSITION SUMMARY:

      The position will coordinate and strengthen educational programs for all preschool students with an emphasis on building relationships and partnerships to enhance inclusion and equity across family economic and well-being systems. Responsible for planning, administering and implementing the programs in accordance with state and federal regulations; financial management of the programs including overseeing the budget and public and private grant applications; ensuring compliance with program and contract requirements; representing the agency in the community through numerous collaborative efforts; and directly supervising management staff. Director must demonstrate knowledgeable decision-making, judgement and concern for the proper care and well-being of children.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Manages and oversees district preschool program in accordance with state (ECEA) and federal (IDEA) law, including childcare licensing regulations. Provides required preschool licensure training, maintains records, and partners with the HR department on licensure requirements.
      • Supports staff in implementing and providing an enriched environment where students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible members of society. Supports staff in facilitating learning and guiding students toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation.
      • Collaborates with district administration and building principals to design and implement professional development/in-service programs for early childhood teachers, paraprofessionals, preschool ancillary staff, and administration.
      • Effectively and Efficiently manage and evaluate staff with a focus on continuous improvement, instructional strategies, and student growth.
      • Collaborates with all stakeholders to identify and implement program goals and the overall mission of the agency.
      • Develop program financial plans and budgets including operating costs, capital expenditures, and extraordinary expenditures – including preparing grant application, identifying funding sources, and monthly financial updates. Has a strong understanding of the Colorado model of funding Pre-school.
      • Hold regular staff meetings for preschool programs.
      • Oversees Universal Preschool (UPK) programs, including enrollment in the state system (Bridgecare). Responsible for the recruitment of families for the UPK program.
      • Establishes and implements procedures for evaluating the effectiveness of the preschool program for the UPK standards. Implement accountable procedures for individual pupil assessment and progress in accordance with state and federal law.
      • Assists Special Education Director and building principals in recruitment, selection, and assignment of qualified special education teachers and ancillary personnel. Establishes standardized written procedures for staffing, referrals, follow-up activities, and program changes.
      • Attend state and regional program meetings and communicates updates from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) to administration and program staff.
      • Represents the district on community and state committees as assigned and works with parent organizations and advisory groups. Must provide efficient communication with community, family, mental health agencies, and community medical practitioners.

      EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

      Required:

      • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field; or current Early Childhood Professional Credential Level III version 3.0 as determined by Colorado Department of Education
      • Director Qualified according to Colorado Rules and Regulations for Child Care Centers
      • Willingness to continue education.
      • Strong leadership, problem-solving, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
      • Computer literate.
      • Knowledge and experience in working with and understanding children and families.

      Preferred:

      • Minimum of five years of experience in successful leadership of a non-profit or public agency, preferably in early childhood development and/or human services field.
      • Master’s degree in special education or related field
      • Five years of experience in the field of special education.
