GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Perform highly complex (senior-level) custodial supervisory work for the Department of Public Safety. Work involves supervising custodial staff, scheduling and assigning work, and requisitioning supplies and equipment. Plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Work under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Applicants must fully complete the summary of experience to determine if minimum qualifications are met.ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Supervise custodial leads and staff. Oversee the performance of general custodial functions, such as sweeping, mopping, and dusting; cleaning office
furniture, walls, windows, and floors; and emptying trash.2. Provides training and technical assistance to assigned staff on various operational functions.
3. Perform inspections of buildings for cleanliness, completed work, and needed repairs and maintains those records.
4. Execute administrative management of the custodial team, including preparing and/or overseeing the preparation of reports of work activities.
5. Manage custodial work orders.
6. Coordinate the requisitions and distribution of supplies and equipment and review the record of supplies used.
7. Confer with staff on program issues and problems to identify and implement solutions. Assists senior-level management with developing and
implementing standard operating procedures for custodial work.8. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
9. Perform other duties as assigned.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
Education - Graduation from standard high school or the equivalent.
Experience – Minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in custodial work cleaning and maintaining commercial or industrial office buildings. One (1) year or more of work experience in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
Licensure and/or Certification - Must possess a valid driver license and automobile insurance.
Critical Organizational Infrastructure requirements – This job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure; must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role. Additionally, and more specifically, must not be employed by nor have any connection or continuous connections to any governmental entity or political apparatus of a country listed in 15 C.F.R. §791.4.
Regulatory knowledge - Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Thorough knowledge of the procedures, techniques, methods, materials and equipment used in cleaning and maintaining large office buildings. Considerable knowledge of recycling procedures, methods and equipment, and the characteristics that distinguish recyclable materials from those that cannot be recycled. Thorough knowledge of janitorial stripping and cleaning equipment and supplies used in maintaining the cleanliness of a large facilities. Working knowledge of special sanitation responsibilities associated with dormitories and gymnasiums. Working knowledge of inventory control principles and procedures.

Technology – Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems (e.g. CAPPS, SharePoint) and be able to learn new software/systems.
Flexibility/Adaptability – Must demonstrate an ability to effectively shift priorities/tasks as necessary or directed and on short notice. Must be open and receptive to change, focusing on positive approaches and outcomes.
Initiative – Must demonstrate a proactive approach to duties, anticipating potential needs, complications, and remedies. Must demonstrate an ability to manage own time, priorities, and resources to successfully meet daily job requirements.
Organizational and Prioritization Skills – Must demonstrate an ability to prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment, able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism.
Safety – Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices. Skilled in the safe storage and use of custodial materials, chemicals and supplies, and the operation and maintenance of equipment used in cleaning and maintaining large office buildings.
Confidentiality and Protected Information – Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information.
Schedule and Travel – Availability for after-hour and weekend work is required for special projects. (Potentially up to 30% Travel).

Current DPS employees who submit applications for posted DPS positions shall notify their immediate supervisor in writing.
A DPS employee who is selected for a position in the same salary group and state title as their current position will be transferred with no salary change.
A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.
Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
