WHO YOU ARE:
TWC’s Information Innovation & Insight Division is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Economist II position to assist in the routine and ad hoc dissemination of Texas labor market information. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of economic principles, statistical analysis, and data visualization techniques as well as have excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
In brief, the Economist II performs complex (journey-level) economics work. This involves conducting economic studies and analyses, collecting economic information, preparing reports, and giving economic presentations. Work conducted is under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment and may include providing guidance to others.
YOU WILL BE TRUSTED TO:
-Plan, coordinate, and conduct economic studies and analysis and prepare reports
-Develop technical advice on economic relationships and conditions
-Identify and evaluate economic factors relating to Labor Market Information programs and projects
-Interpret economic conditions and advise on implications
-Assist in routine and ad hoc departmental data release efforts, public information activities, and internal agency briefings.
-Assist with development and occasionally deliver presentations at external events regarding labor market outreach efforts and topical information on market conditions, business activity, local economic development initiatives, and employment and training activities.
-Occasionally deliver or assist with trainings outlining the data, publications, and products available through Texas Workforce Commission’s Labor Market Information Department (LMI).
- Updates data, layout and design of LMI’s publications and profiles
- Perform other duties as assigned.
YOU QUALIFY WITH:
-One year of experience in economic research or statistical or analytical work.
- Relevant academic credits may be applied toward experience qualifications for this position.
YOU ARE A GREAT FIT WITH:
-Knowledge of Bureau of Labor Statistics programs including but not limited to Current Employment Statistics, Local Area Unemployment Statistics, Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics.
-Knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission’s Employment Projections program.
-Knowledge of economic principles, techniques, and procedures including skills in performing statistical computations.
-Ability to prepare and analyze statistics and other economics data, prepare reports, communicate effectively, and train others.
-Ability to prioritize workload, manage time effectively, work in a fast paced, team-oriented environment, with an emphasis on excellence and continuous improvement.
-Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal, communication, organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
-Skill in/knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office Suite software (Outlook, Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint), Tableau, Adobe, and SQL.
