      Job Summary/Basic Function:

      This position provides occupational safety and health services to campus employees and ensures environmental compliance for all operating permits, including monitoring, sampling, and recordkeeping. Responsibilities include inspecting worksites and office settings, identifying hazards, developing safety and health programs, and creating and delivering safety and environmental training.

      This position is not eligible for a hybrid/remote work schedule.

      This position is not eligible for VISA sponsorship.

      Department Overview:

      Facilities Operations and Maintenance supports the university’s strategic mission by professionally maintaining safe, functional and attractive facilities and grounds, while also providing quality support services to the campus community.

      Level Scope:

      Recognized subject matter expert who knows how to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of the professional field with limited oversight from managers. Independently performs the full range of responsibilities within the function; requires deep job knowledge of area typically obtained through higher education combined with experience. Manages large projects or processes and problems faced are difficult and often complex; analyzes problems/issues of diverse scope and determines solutions. May manage programs that include formulating strategies and administering policies, processes, and resources; functions with a high degree of autonomy. Influences others regarding policies, practices and procedures.

      Essential Functions:

      ● Provide on-site occupational safety and health services to Boise State campus employees, including management of the ergonomics program and conducting ergonomic evaluations.
      ● Inspect worksites and office environments for compliance with OSHA regulations and other recognized safety standards; identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
      ● Evaluate safety and health risks across industrial, construction, and office settings and propose improvements through engineering, administrative, or behavioral controls.
      ● Develop, update, and maintain written safety and health programs, plans, standard operating procedures, and records to ensure OSHA compliance and practical implementation, including programs such as fall protection, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, bloodborne pathogens, confined space entry, and others.
      ● Develop, deliver, and track required safety and environmental training in both in-person and online formats.
      ● Investigate safety incidents, near misses, and employee concerns; document findings and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
      ● Conduct routine environmental inspections, assessments, and studies related to air quality, water quality, hazardous waste, and other regulatory areas.
      ● Perform environmental sampling, monitoring, and surveillance activities; analyze data, prepare technical reports, and maintain accurate records.
      ● Identify sources of pollution and participate in the development and implementation of corrective or preventive action plans.
      ● Investigate environmental complaints, document violations, and recommend corrective procedures; respond to environmental incidents and emergencies.
      ● Calibrate, operate, and maintain environmental monitoring equipment and field instruments.
      ● Interpret and apply environmental laws, regulations, policies, and standards; provide guidance to campus stakeholders on compliance requirements.
      ● Manage all environmental permits and permit conditions, including monitoring, reporting, and recordkeeping.
      ● Perform other duties as assigned.

      Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

      ● Knowledge of, and ability to operate, occupational and environmental monitoring equipment, including sound level meters, noise dosimeters, personal air monitoring pumps, and multi-gas monitors.
      ● Ability to identify, evaluate, and analyze occupational safety and health hazards in workplace environments.
      ● Working knowledge of OSHA General Industry standards and other applicable state and federal laws, regulations, codes, and guidelines, including but not limited to Respiratory Protection, Confined Space, and Hearing Conservation.
      ● Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to apply scientific principles and methods to assess conditions and develop effective solutions.
      ● Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
      ● Ability to communicate scientific and technical information effectively through oral presentations and training, as well as through written documents such as reports and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
      ● Proficiency in the use of computers and common software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for data analysis, documentation, and record keeping.

      Minimum Qualifications:

      Bachelor Degree with at least 5 years experience.

      A valid Driver's License.

      Salary and Benefit s:
