      Cary, NC is seeking candidates to join our team of facilities attendants who ensure our parks and public spaces are kept clean and safe to the highest standards. This role performs semi-skilled work in the care and maintenance of parks, greenways, specialty facilities and other Cary-maintained facilities.       This position works independently following a specified route and /or schedule, and also works collaboratively as part of the larger facilities maintenance team. The ideal candidate is self-directed, with skills to maintain their assigned parks and facilities without direct supervision. They will exercise sound independent judgment in keeping Cary parks and supporting facilities up to standards.       This work may require weekend work or flexed schedule. Work is performed under regular supervision by a Facilities Work Expeditor or Athletic Field Maintenance Crew Leader.

      Work may require weekend work or flexed schedule. This position is also a key member of the Adverse Weather Response team.Typically performs maintenance work independently following a specified route and/or schedule;

      Rotates to assigned facilities to inspect and perform routine maintenance, repair, and cleaning;

      Reports problems observed in facilities; reports facility repair needs to supervisor for work order creation;

      Maintains reports on work performed; completes work order data accurately and submits to supervisor for inspection;

      Works as a member of a maintenance team to perform landscape maintenance at assigned facilities;

      Performs landscape maintenance tasks such as raking and blowing leaves, pruning, trimming, etc.;

      Removes trash, litter, and debris from parks, greenways, and building grounds disposing of all materials in the appropriate manner;

      Provides routine custodial services at designated recreational program buildings;

      Performs safety inspections and accomplishes minor repair tasks at all park playgrounds; specifically, repairs to playground safety surfacing;

      Inspects parks and greenways for vandalism; reports repair needs to supervisor;

      Converses with facility patrons regarding questions, complaints and uses of facilities;

      Provides setup and/or takedown assistance for town-sponsored events or programs;

      Assists with facility cleanup during hazardous weather events;

      Performs other job-related tasks as required.General knowledge of tools and equipment associated with building and grounds maintenance duties; General knowledge of rules and regulations governing parks use by the general public; Ability to interact positively with the general public; Ability to understand written and oral instructions; Ability to work independently or within a team setting.
      Education and Experience
      Any combination of experience and education equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in performing park and/or landscape maintenance tasks.
      Physical Requirements
      Work in this class is medium to heavy and requires exposure to the elements such as heat, cold, and rain;

      The physical ability to lift moderate to heavy items is required;

      The ability to walk and stand for long periods, as well as the ability to reach, stoop, kneel, etc.;

      Visual acuity is necessary in order to perform custodial and maintenance functions and observe needed repairs.
    Special Requirements
    Requires a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record

    Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal check, education verification and credit history review) prior to employment.
