- Assist the Controller on the timely preparation and submission of complex financial reports and statements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes and reporting, ensuring full compliance with GAAP, GASB, and all applicable federal/state regulations (e.g., Washington State Office of Financial Management (OFM), State Board for Community and Technical Colleges (SBCTC), State Auditor's Office (SAO), US Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and US Department of Education (DOE)).
- Provide expert-level financial analyses, forecasting, insights, and other specialized reporting to support transparency, fiscal responsibility, and decision-making processes within the department and across the college.
- Conduct complex bank reconciliations, using advanced Excel spreadsheets and multiple reports from various sources (e.g., bank statements, general ledger extracts, deposit records, transaction outside payment platforms); compare transactions, investigate and resolve variances/exceptions (such as outstanding items, timing differences, fees, or errors), and ensure accurate and timely cash positioning and compliance with state guidelines.
- Prepare and oversee monthly general ledger reconciliations for liabilities, receivables, adjustment clearing accounts, and other complex areas, applying advanced analytical skills to identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Research and resolve variances in intricate financial data; ensure accuracy and appropriateness of entries to ledger accounts; reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger; review and monitor all general ledger entries from sub-modules submitted by college accounting and budget officers; review SMARTer and investigate and correct errors to maintain compliance with state standards, federal guidelines, and local policies.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to finance staff on complex general ledger accounting matters and assist in resolving challenging related issues.
- Support the Controller with government filings, including Quarterly Cash Transaction Reports, Integrated Post-Secondary Education Data Systems (IPEDS), and annual federal/state disclosure reports.
- Independently reconcile and manage Fixed Asset accounting processes, including monthly reconciling general ledger asset accounts with Asset Module, calculating/recording depreciation, and ensuring data integrity.
- Assist in designing and implementing internal control measures to comply with laws, regulations, and policies; safeguard college assets; enhance operational efficiency; and provide training on these controls.
- Prepare and support the development of fiscal reports for internal review, external audit, and compliance
- Interpret fiscal and accounting policies/procedures; assist with implementing new ones; recommend updates/changes to existing policies.
- Collaborate with the Controller on all annual audit activities; respond to audit reports; initiate corrective actions to address discrepancies or noncompliance.
- Prepare and support development of fiscal reports for internal review, external audit, and compliance purposes.
- Manage all relevant taxes (sales, use, parking, etc.) and ensure timely filing with the Department of Revenue.
- Serve as a fiscal subject matter expert, providing specialized fiscal support to program staff using independent judgment in interpreting/applying rules for functions such as asset accounting, general ledger entries, bank reconciliation items, and interdepartmental fund transfers.
- Serve as backup to the Controller and other fiscal services staff to maintain continuity of key operations.

- Bachelor's degree which includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting
- AND at least 4 years of recent, relevant advanced accounting experience, including substantial work with General Ledger Reconciliation using accounting-related software and advanced Microsoft Excel.
- OR a Master's degree in a financial related field, certification as a Public Accountant, Internal Auditor, Certified Governmental Financial Manager or Management Accountant can be substituted for professional experience.
- OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Microsoft Office applications (SharePoint, Outlook, Teams, Word)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/, SUMIF, etc.)
- Bank reconciliation processes and procedures, including identification and resolution of discrepancies between bank statements and general ledger accounts
- Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards (GASB)
- Office of Financial Management (OFM) regulations
- State, federal, and grantor guidelines/regulations
- Accounting theory/practice, fund accounting procedures, budgeting best practices
- Operational practices in higher education, state grants, funding, and accounting
- Significant experience with enterprise resource planning systems such as PeopleSoft ctcLink (or comparable ERP like Banner/SAP), including query development, data extraction, fixed asset management, bank reconciliation processes, and fiscal reporting.
- General accounting practices of Washington State higher education institutions

The Senior Accountant is a highly advanced, senior-level professional position within Shoreline College's accounting and finance team. This role demands a high level of analytical skillset to handle and reconcile complex accounting data, ensure financial accuracy across multiple systems and regulations, and provide expert-level insights in a fast-paced higher education environment. Under the supervision of the Controller, the Senior Accountant performs fully functional, senior-level professional accounting duties, often involving assignments of moderate to high complexity that require broad, in-depth experience across diverse areas of accounting and financial operations.
This position serves as a key contributor in the department, with delegated authority to review and approve accounting entries, guide fiscal staff, and contribute significantly to month-end and year-end closing processes. The role emphasizes advanced reconciliation of intricate financial data, utilizing sound financial and accounting principles to perform detailed record keeping, reconciliation, auditing, cash management, and transaction analysis.
The Senior Accountant also supervises, advises, and mentors fiscal staff on mid- to advanced-level tasks, while assisting the Executive Director and Controller in coordinating critical closing activities and financial reporting.

Physical Work Environment:
The College operates both online and in-person. If working on campus, this position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings both on and off campus. Remote work options are also available. If authorized for online work, employees will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. This position may require limited travel.
Terms Of Employment/Salary:
This position is allocated to pay range 61 under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS
A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time.
A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
