    • With Associate's Degree: Three years progressive management experience in automotive or school bus maintenance.
    • Without Associate's Degree: Five years progressive management experience in automotive or school bus maintenance.
    • Possess valid Commercial Driver's License Class B with Passenger, Air Brake, and School Bus Endorsement or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.
    • Experience in creating workflow processes to maximize resources and develop efficiencies.
    • Experience in overseeing all aspects of garage operation.
    • Thorough knowledge of standard automotive trade practices, operation of gasoline and diesel engines, and occupational hazard and safety standards of trade engines.
    • Proficient in the use of a computer with the ability to understand and administer a computerized client/server fleet management system, work order system, and computerized fuel management system.
    • Possess excellent oral and written communications skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to independently and effectively complete work assignments and projects in a timely manner.
    • Must have predictable and reliable attendance.
    • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with three years of supervisory fleet management experience in public school transportation.
    • Master certification in medium/heavy duty truck repair, school bus repair, and/or automobile repair.
    • ASE Automobile Technician certification at any level, with preference given to ASE School Bus Technician and/or Master School Bus Technician Certification.
    • Familiarity with the WCPS policies, goals and programs.
    • Supervises fleet maintenance operations and staff to include oversight of mechanics' work assignments and staff evaluation.
    • Oversees in-service training programs and professional development activities for the fleet maintenance department.
    • Supervises contracted services related to fleet management program.
    • Assists in the recruitment, screening, and training of fleet maintenance staff.
    • Maintains compliance with OSHA and other state and federal safety requirements.
    • Manages vehicle insurance repair, warranty repair, and vehicle recalls.
    • Conducts MVA and COMAR required inspections of all public-school buses (including contractor buses) and compiles reports related to that function with MVA and all other required reporting agencies.
    • Determines quantities and authorizes procurement of supplies and materials for transportation functions and for fleet management use.
    • Provides recommendations and analytical information to the Supervisor of Transportation regarding all operational aspects of Fleet Management.
    • Maintains accurate records and documentation of all fleet management operations, including hours worked, parts utilized, fuel consumption and all other required records.
    • Manages all aspects of the on-site fueling station.
    • Develops specifications and requisitions, determines appropriate vendors and facilitates orders of vehicles, equipment, parts and services as related to the operation and management of the WCPS fleet.
    • Establish an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care.
    • Set up and supervise a system for the receipt and issuance of parts and supplies and the keeping of records and inventory.
    • Lay out, assign, supervise and inspect the work of the mechanics in the overhaul and repair of district automotive equipment.
    • Assist in the recruitment, screening, training and evaluation of garage employees.
    • Respond to emergency road calls - accidents.
    • Ensures the readiness of fleet and lot during inclement weather.
    • Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders.
    • Drive or assist on school bus routes as needed.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    • Required periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer and other office equipment.
    • Ability to sufficiently and efficiently move throughout the building and grounds for extended periods.
    • Must have the ability to raise, lower, and carry objects up to 50 lbs. on an irregular basis.
    • Must be able to bend, crouch, and climb ladders.
    • Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with others as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear.
    • Will be subject to loud noises, dusts, fumes as well as hot and cold outdoor temperatures.
