      Main duties of the job

      Job Summary

      The Receptionist is responsible for providing a professional, efficient, and friendly reception service to patients and visitors, both in person and via the telephone. The role is essential to the smooth day-to-day running of the practice and requires a high level of confidentiality, accuracy, and customer care in a busy healthcare environment.

      Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesPatient Services
      • Act as the first point of contact for patients attending or contacting the practice

      • Receive, assist, and direct patients appropriately

      • Book, cancel, and amend appointments using the clinical system

      • Handle patient enquiries sensitively and signpost to the appropriate service or clinician

      • Manage incoming and outgoing telephone calls in a courteous and professional manner

      Administrative Duties
      • Maintain accurate patient records, ensuring confidentiality at all times

      • Process registration forms, repeat prescription requests, and other documentation as required

      • Support clinicians and the wider practice team with administrative tasks

      • Ensure the reception area is tidy, welcoming, and safe

      Communication and Teamwork
      • Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and external services

      • Work collaboratively with the reception and clinical team to ensure smooth practice operations

      • Escalate concerns appropriately, including urgent clinical or safeguarding issues

      Confidentiality and Governance
      • Adhere to practice policies, procedures, and NHS confidentiality guidelines

      • Maintain data protection standards at all times

      • Participate in training, meetings, and performance reviews as required
