      The Inventory Control Specialist I is an entry-level position within the Asset Management team under the Purchasing Office. This role supports the intake, tracking, and warehousing of county assets. The incumbent performs basic inventory and logistics tasks, including the receipt, documentation, and physical movement of goods. This role provides foundational experience in warehouse and inventory operations and functions under close supervision.

      Duties & Responsibilities:

      • Receive and log new inventory using designated systems and procedures.

      • Perform basic inventory audits and support reconciliation efforts.

      • Assist in tagging and labeling items for tracking.

      • Support warehouse organization, cleanliness, and item placement.

      • Use hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklift, or similar equipment to move inventory.

      • Deliver or retrieve inventory as directed using county vehicles.

      • Communicate clearly with coworkers and other departments.

      • Follow established safety procedures.

      • Assist with surplus item preparations for transfer, redistribution, or auction.

      • Perform basic clerical support (filing, labeling, entry).

      • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

      Education and Experience:

      • High school diploma or GED.

      • No prior experience required, though some exposure to warehousing is a plus.

      Licensure:

      • Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Basic knowledge of warehouse operations and logistics.

      • Familiarity with standard inventory practices (can be trained).

      • Basic computer literacy; willingness to learn inventory software.

      • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.

      • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

      • Dependable, punctual, and safety conscious.

      • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds).

      • Must maintain a clean driving record and valid driver’s license.

      • Primary work is performed in a warehouse setting.

      • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.

      • Exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures.

      • May require driving to transport inventory or equipment.

      • Some exposure to warehousing is a plus.

      Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

      • This is a full-time position with the typical work hours of Monday - Thursday from 6AM to 4:30PM.

      • Occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required based on the specific needs and demands of the department.

      Work Environment and Physical Demands:

      • Primary work is performed in a warehouse setting.

      • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.

      • Exposure to dust, noise, and fluctuating temperatures.

      • May require driving to transport inventory or equipment.
