      The City of Boise is hiring an IT Field Tech!

      This role will provide onsite IT field support for public safety operations, primarily supporting police facilities, vehicles, and mobile technologies. Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots computer hardware, in-car systems, and network connectivity while managing secure Microsoft 365 environments and participating in an on-call rotation to ensure continuous technology availability.

      Key Focus Areas

      • Deploys and supports Mobile Data Computers (MDCs), in-car peripherals, and workstation equipment

      • Installs and troubleshoots Cradlepoint routers, LTE/VPN connectivity, and vehicle network systems

      • Manages devices and security policies using Microsoft Intune and Microsoft 365 tools

      • Supports Microsoft Dynamics–based applications and coordinates vendor or internal escalations

      • Maintains CJIS compliance, asset documentation, and clear communication with sworn and civilian staff

      Provides daily system administration and support for department-level computer systems. Identifies and interprets malfunctions and initiates corrective action to restore operation. Reviews processes and procedures followed by the end-user to determine steps taken before malfunction and explain correct procedures. Monitors computer systems and supporting hardware equipment and performs routine checks to verify system stability.

      Maintains and records information in databases to reflect current status and changes.

      Assists the help desk. Activates network ports for computers and VoIP phones. Installs and configures new computers and applications based on computer or software life cycle. Coordinates deployment of personal computers (PC), laptops and peripherals as the replacement cycle process dictates. Assists in establishing new computer workstations. Ensures all new and re-distributed equipment is suitable for use and functioning appropriately.

      Develops and writes procedures for installation and use of hardware and software. Writes user instruction manuals and is a technical consultant once new systems are implemented. Maintains service logs. Updates documentation to record new equipment installation, new sites and changes to computer configuration. Documents technical processes and troubleshooting guidelines in the knowledge management database.

      Analyzes department needs by studying and evaluating department workflows and recommends future hardware and software additions or enhancements supporting department objectives.

      High School diploma or equivalent and two years of experience providing basic PC hardware/software support, which includes installing and configuring personal computers (PCs) and/or peripherals, installing software and performing routine file backup operations in a medium to large-scale computer or client/server system, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

      Knowledge of:
      • The principles and practices of PC or network server operation or both
      • Normal preventative maintenance practices for PCs or network servers or both
      • PC or network server software
      • Computer usage including related software
      • Installation, maintenance and operation of computer hardware and software, peripherals, operating systems and applications software.

      Ability to:
      • Define and diagnose user issues and inquiries
      • Install, operate and troubleshoot standard PC, operating systems and devices
      • Quickly define, diagnose and resolve user problems with computer hardware and software-related problems
      • Train end users and communicate technical information to non-technical staff
      • Maintain current knowledge of new technology
      • Communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
      • Perform all essential functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without reasonable accommodation.

      Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

      Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training
      Five years of progressively responsible experience providing intermediate to advanced PC hardware/software support in a large-scale client/server systems.

      CompTIA A+ certificate for hardware and operating systems.

      Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or other ITSM Software.

      Licensing And Other Requirements

      Valid state-issued driver's license.

      Applicants must be able to pass:

      City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

      Transportation Security Administration background check (SIDA)

      Boise Police Department Criminal Justice Information System Background Check (BPD CJIS)

      Physical Efforts
      While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently lifting/carrying up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting/carrying up to 35 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. Work includes sensory ability to talk and hear. Work in this position also includes close vision and distance vision. Employees will sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

      Working Environment
      The work environment will include inside conditions. Employees are exposed to electrical hazards. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position.
      This position works: all shifts as needed, on short notice, and as part of a rotation, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays.
