- Administer and troubleshoot servers, operating systems, and related hardware, with specific expertise in Windows Server environments.
- Implement system upgrades, patches, and security configurations.
- Oversee the monitoring of information technology usage related to City personnel and vendors to safeguard the city's assets, intellectual property, and computer systems.
- Work with the Systems Analyst to implement and maintain hardware and software systems, with an emphasis on performance optimization and increased operational efficiencies throughout the organization.
- Monitor system performance, ensuring high availability of servers and addressing issues promptly.
- Primary support responsibility for the city's physical and virtual server infrastructure.
- Conduct regular backups and develop disaster recovery plans for systems.
- Participate in the planning and implementation of server and infrastructure upgrades.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system-related issues promptly.
- Collaborate with network administrator to ensure seamless integration of systems.
- Document system configurations, changes, and maintenance procedures.
- Participate in on-call rotation.
- Act as an escalation point for technical support.
- Perform various other duties as assigned by the Director of Information Technology
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with Microsoft Server operating systems.
- In-depth knowledge and hands-on experience with virtualization technologies.
- Proficiency in managing and troubleshooting physical and virtual server environments.
- Experience with Absolute Secure Access and CheckPoint VPNs.
- Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery best practices. Experience with Rubrik a plus.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for system-related issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with strong documentation skills.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The System Administrator plays a crucial role in managing and maintaining the organization's IT systems, servers, and infrastructure. Reporting to the IT Director, this position focuses on ensuring the availability, performance, and security of systems. The Systems Administrator collaborates with various IT team members to support applications, troubleshoot issues, and implement upgrades to meet organizational needs.

Education, Training, and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and relevant work experience is preferred; or any other combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. CompTIA ITF+, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Server+, MCP, MCSE, and CCNA certifications are preferred but not required.
Licenses/Certifications:
Valid Illinois driver's license or equivalent.
