Your Opportunity:
Working along with other Health Care Professionals, the Laboratory Assistant 1 will provide laboratory support to the Grey Nuns Community Hospital in Edmonton. In this role, your primary responsibilities include phlebotomy for adults, children, and infants using both macro and micro techniques. You will also be accessioning patient specimens, troubleshooting problem specimens, and performing reception duties. You have excellent computer literacy. Previous experience with healthcare information systems is an asset. Equally comfortable working independently and as part of a team, you can develop and maintain positive working relationships with your colleagues and other healthcare professionals you may interact with. You have good judgement and decision-making skills and will conduct yourself according to the Alberta Health Services Code of Conduct and the APL Values of Kindness, Inclusion, Innovation, Agility, and Accuracy. Description:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Recent phlebotomy training or equivalent work experience required. Recent formal urinalysis training course or equivalent work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:Competency with the EPIC Information System. Recent experience with capillary/microcollection procedures. Recent experience at an acute care site. Recent experience with Clinitek Advantus and DxU Iris instrumentation.
