- Maintain Park grounds by picking up litter and debris.
- Perform basic cleaning of park facilities and monitors supplies in restrooms.
- Report problems or safety hazards.
- May operate small lawn and garden power tools such as: backpack blowers, string trimmers, and stick edgers.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Candidates will be responsible for their own safety shoes.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSThe Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking Laborer (Seasonal Temporary) to join its Greenspace Management team.
The potential candidate will play a key role in the following duties:
WORKING CONDITIONS
There are routine exposures to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air condition. The position may involve routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemical substances such as cleaning solutions.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Very fundamental levels of ability to read, write and follow simple oral instructions as might normally be acquired through up to 8 years of formal schooling.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
No experience is required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
May require a valid Texas Class C driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Applicants who can work Day, Evening, Night, Weekend, and Holiday Shifts.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIREDThe selection process will involve application review and/or interview.
SAFETY IMPACT POSITION YESIf yes, this position is subject to random drug testing and if a promotional position, candidate must pass an assignment drug test.
PAY GRADE - 5

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
