      About Capital and Collateral Litigation

      Performs under general supervision legal assistant support for assigned attorneys; prepares, processes, and maintains legal documents and records.
      • Completes typing, copying, scanning and transmittal of correspondence and litigation documents, including e-filing documents with state and federal courts. Also processes incoming and outgoing mail promptly, maintains case files both for the physical file and electronically, maintains calendars for and provides reminders to attorneys, proofs documents for correctness in caption, dates, and certificate of service names and addressed (including email address), completes assigned support tasks.
      • Proofreads all correspondence and documents for format, spelling, punctuation, typographical and grammatical errors. Works with attorneys to review suggestions and make changes as approved by the attorney. Final briefs must comply with the section requirements for proofing and the redundancy protocol maintained by the section, with proof of compliance noted on the section form for review of final briefs.
      • Must be familiar with flow of litigation in both state and federal courts and obtain files, scan documents, and be familiar with e-filing requirements in both state and federal courts to assist attorneys.
      • Update paper files, LawBase, and document management system no less than weekly, and ensure timely and accurate notice information to the victims assistance unit.
      • Maintain receptionist coverage for the section phones; take messages and promptly deliver messages to attorneys; coordinate travel arrangements where necessary; and assist in court preparations including compiling copies for the attorneys, notebooks, drafting subpoenas or other preparations for in-court appearances. Assistants are expected to cover duties of other assistants who are out of the office or assigned to different duties to ensure continuity of support for the attorneys.
      • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Division Supervisor, Chief Deputy, and/or Attorney General.

      A bachelor's degree and clerical experience. Education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

      Additional Requirements:
      • Position will require frequent stooping and/or bending and lifting of heavy files.
      • May require work after normal hours to meet deadlines when necessary
      • Must possess knowledge of Microsoft Office; be well organized and be able to handle multiple demands.
      • Excellent typing and proofreading skills. Prior legal experience required.
      • Must be well organized and work independently.
      • Employee is expected to promptly inform the supervisor of any issues, problems, or suggestions related to job duties.
