      Hiring Range: $57,228-$66,239/ annual
      Work Day/Hours: Monday - Friday 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with some evenings, weekends, and Holidays.

      The DPR Maintenance and Operations Division is devoted to maintaining and repairing City of Durham Parks and Recreation property, equipment, and facilities, providing custodial services, and collecting, transporting, and disposing of municipal solid waste and yard waste through the performance of semi-skilled and skilled labor and technical work. Incumbents provide supervision to crews assigned to the maintenance and repair of City of Durham Parks and Recreation property, infrastructure and/or equipment or custodial services. Incumbents serve as the first formal level of field staff supervision (which includes completing performance appraisals), and assigns and directs work to lead staff as well as line staff.

      Responsible for ensuring daily activity logs and reports are correctly completed; assigning work; inspecting work; ensuring quality control; serving as the first level of approval for purchases; providing input into budget planning; maintaining records and databases; reporting accidents and injuries and conducting investigations; providing customer service; operating complex equipment; and performing the most complex of tasks similar to those supervised.

      Serves as a first-level field supervisor, supervising paraprofessional and support staff including conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.

      Direct the installation, repair and maintenance of park and recreational facilities such as grounds, trails, amenities and other facilities, identify priorities, and prepare recommendations for work.• Provides front-line supervision of construction project crews for the installation, maintenance and repairs of recreational features and park amenities such as shelters, courts, restrooms, playgrounds, water fountains, light fixtures, sinks, grills, etc.).
      • Conducts assessment of existing park and recreational facilities to document and track conditions.
      • Utilize assessments to identify priority needs.
      • Develop project scope and oversee implementation of work.
      • Direct and assists crews to implement maintenance and repairs to perform light carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, painting, concrete work, welding, masonry, and other trades work.
      • Using Cityworks application, an asset management software system, to manage work orders, record work completed, and initiate service requests on a routine basis.
      • Assigns and inspects work; performs quality control; ensures adequate staffing levels; and ensures compliance with applicable safety and operational policies and practices.
      • Manage, direct and coach work crew.
      • Coordinates safety training and ensures compliance with applicable safety and operational policies and practices.
      • Ensures that daily activity logs, inspections and reports are completed correctly; monitors inventory; proofs work and reviews the work of others to ensure accuracy and completeness.
      • May be assigned to grounds maintenance/mowing or athletic maintenance crews as needed to assist with operations of commercial light and heavy landscaping equipment including (but not limited to) tractors, zero turn mowers, trimmers, blowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, and chain saws.
      • Provides park and trail grounds cleanup and event setup services on weekends and as needed.
      • Performs seasonal projects assigned, including winter leaf pick up, brush clearing, snow and ice removal, storm cleanup, and athletic field maintenance.
      • Assists with procurement, provides input into budget planning, and assists with inventory maintenance.
      • Provides customer and staff assistance; responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and emergency requests; troubleshoots complex issues; reports accidents and injuries; conducts safety investigations; and provides information on policies and procedures.
      • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
      • Associate’s degree OR equivalent experience.
      • Two years of experience related to construction, maintenance and repair of park and recreation facilities/amenities, or directing project maintenance crews.
      • Prior lead or supervisory experience.
      • Must have a valid, unrestricted, North Carolina Class C driver's license or if you currently have another state driver's license, be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver's license within 60 days of start date.
      • Valid NC Class A Commercial Driver's License with satisfactory driving record required within 1 year of employment.
      • Prior use of asset management software
      • Familiarity with industry standards of repairing recreational infrastructure and minor repairs of plumbing and carpentry.
      • Read and understand written instructions, understand simple processes, and understand the routine operation of machines.
      • Willing and available to work a flex schedule (evenings, weekends, and/or holidays, and/or during inclement weather).
      • Experience with safe and proper implementation of skilled trades repairs.
      • Experience moving and transporting equipment.
      • Ability to prioritize a variety of daily assignments.
      • Basic proficiency with computers and smartphone technology.
      • Available to work some nights, weekends, holidays, rotating or flex schedules, and during inclement weather.
      • Ability to work outdoors in a fast-paced, physically challenging environment.
      • Good work ethic, attitude, and judgment skills.
      • Ability to be flexible with changing priorities.
      • Certified Landscape Professional.
      • Commercial landscape experience.
      • The ability to design landscape beds and areas.
      • A North Carolina Public Pesticide Operator’s Certificate.
      • CPR and First Aid certification.
