      Maintenance Worker:
      $1,699.49 - $2,031.05 Biweekly
      Senior Maintenance Worker:
      $1,877.76 - $2,244.10 Biweekly

      Examination Schedule:
      • Written Exam: March 6, 2026


      Examination :

      Written Exam (Weighted 100%): Will be conducted for the purpose of assessing the applicant's knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in the carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trades; plumbing and electrical equipment used in building and grounds; and road, fence and commercial garage door repairs and other relevant subjects.

      Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.


      Minimum Qualifications:

      Maintenance Worker-
      • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent and any combination of training, education, and experience in general building maintenance and repair, involving minor carpentry, electrical, painting, and plumbing work.
      • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.

      Senior Maintenance Worker-
      • High School Diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent
      • Three (3) years of paid experience general building maintenance and repair, involving minor carpentry, electrical, painting and plumbing work.
      • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver’s license.
      • Possession and maintenance of a Back Flow Tester Certification is required for some positions.

      Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

      A background check may be conducted for this classification.

      Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.

      This examination will establish an eligible list from which an immediate appointment will be made at the Kern County Fire Department . Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve-months, unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
