- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the airport, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of all airport activities, processes, systems, and personnel on shift
- Provide leadership, guidance, and operational oversight to WAA employees and contracted service providers, including areas such as airport operations, customer service, security, baggage handling, and facilities support, ensuring alignment with departmental priorities and organizational strategy
- Act as the senior operational decision-maker on shift, exercising discretion and authority on matters of operational importance, and acting on behalf of the Director as required
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including airlines, tenants, service providers, and regulatory partners, to support coordinated airport operations
- Monitor operational performance and service delivery, ensuring compliance with WAA policies, service standards, contractual obligations, and applicable regulatory requirements
- Lead and manage emergency situations and irregular operations, including activation of the Emergency Operations Centre, and serve as the central point of coordination and communication during operational disruptions
- Contribute to strategic planning and the development and implementation of business initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, service delivery, and customer experience
- Support fiscal and resource planning activities, including oversight of contracts, service agreements, and departmental budget inputs and monitoring
- Provide people leadership, including setting expectations, coaching, performance management, and supporting a high-performing team environment within a matrix management structure
- University degree and/or college diploma in aviation management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience (4–6 years)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a technical role within airport operations or a similarly regulated environment
- Previous management and leadership experience, including leading large teams
- Demonstrated budgeting and cost management experience
- Strong knowledge of airport operations
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across functions and with diverse stakeholders
- Proven ability to motivate others and deliver results in a time-sensitive environment
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives
- Ability to work 24/7/365 rotational shifts

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Terminal Operations, the Manager, Airport Operations leads and oversees the day-to-day operations of WAA, ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective functioning of all airport activities, processes, systems, and personnel on shift. The role provides management oversight and guidance to airport employees, while establishing and maintaining departmental priorities aligned with the organization’s strategic direction and ensuring overall operational integrity.
The Manager, Airport Operations is responsible for key operational areas including baggage handling, airport operations, customer service, security, and for building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
With discretionary decision-making authority on matters of operational importance, the Manager provides input, guidance, and advice on strategic direction, as well as fiscal and resource planning. Operating within a matrix management structure, this role acts on behalf of the Director as required and contributes as a member of the WAA leadership team to overall management and strategic planning processes.
