We are seeking a Manager to lead Veracode’s Applied Research team, reporting into the Senior Director Research. The Applied Research team improves the security capabilities of Veracode’s products by providing detailed specifications, test cases, implementation guidance, and customer-facing content to engineering. They help product teams understand what is possible, explore the risks of adding or altering certain capabilities, and understand how current and potential capabilities fit in with software development and application security as a whole. They conduct speculative research projects aimed at reinforcing Veracode’s brand reputation by sharing compelling research with the global security community through various channels.

This is a player/coach role as much as it is a people management and project management role. While you do not need to master the specifics of the team’s deliverables, you will need to establish in-depth knowledge of product lines, analysis technologies, and organizational objectives. You will need to build relationships with engineering, product, marketing, and services leadership in order for the team to meet its delivery schedules and performance requirements.

      Responsibilities

      • Conceptualize, scope, and delegate Applied Research projects supporting the product portfolio
      • Manage project priorities, timelines, milestones, and deliverables in close collaboration with product management
      • Continually refine and improve team processes and workflows to achieve resilience and scale
      • Engage with both internal and external customers in triaging and servicing customer escalations as needed
      • Mentor and provide technical guidance to developers and researchers
      • Establish and support career development plans for the team
      • Manage an active relationship with our marketing and public relations teams to assure visibility of our research (e.g. blog articles, trend analysis, publishing original research, presenting at industry conferences, etc.)

      Skills & Requirements

You have experience leading a remote team working on a variety of mostly independent projects. You have a proven track record building and leading strong teams and developing people. You have the poise and business acumen to engage directly and empathetically with internal and external customers, and the technical foundation to go deep on a wide range of software security topics and disciplines.

      • 3+ years of experience managing and leading technical teams
      • 5-10 years of practical security work experience or equivalent hobbyist portfolio
      • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with ability to succinctly represent complex technical concepts to varied audiences and different levels of leadership
      • Ability to manage multiple priorities across different horizons with a high degree of predictability
      • Excellent product sensibility and experience to achieve business goals
      • Prior experience with working in a DevOps environment a big plus

      Artifacts

If not already listed on your resume, please provide links to:

      • Security research you’ve personally conducted (e.g. whitepapers, blog posts, etc.)
      • Videos and/or slide decks of recent conference presentation(s)
