Assist HOD to provide comprehensive legal counsel on complex transactions, regulatory matters, and business operations while identifying and mitigating legal risks on matters involving claims, disciplinary matters involving agents or employees and contracts
Ensure full compliance with central bank regulations, family takaful related laws, and financial services legislation. Compliance Champion for Legal team.
Assist HOD to oversee all contractual arrangements, review commercial agreements and legal documentation to protect organizational interests and ensure enforceability.
Engaging with Business Unit to understand their requirement and intention of entering a contract.
Assist HOD to manage litigation matters, regulatory investigations, and dispute resolution processes while coordinating with external legal counsel.
Collating relevant info from Business Unit to initiate / defend legal suit.
Perusing court documents prepared by external counsel and provide feedback.
Assist in negotiating with the Business Unit and panel lawyer to settle court cases amicably.
Assist HOD to provide advice and review of new/ existing products.
Assist HOD to develop and deliver legal awareness programs to build organizational capability and ensure staff understanding of legal and regulatory requirements.
Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from a recognized university. Master’s degree in law (LLM) or MBA preferred.
Admitted to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
Minimum 10 years of legal experience with at least 5 years in senior legal roles –in law firms or in an in-house legal team.
Minimum 5 years of experience in financial services or life insurance/ family takaful sector.
Track record of managing complex legal matters and regulatory compliance with experience working with central bank regulations and financial services law.
Expert knowledge of life insurance / family takaful laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and review capabilities with knowledge of securities laws and capital markets regulations.
Familiarity with anti-money laundering and financial crime legislation.
Deep understanding of corporate governance principles and best practices.
Professional certification in risk management or compliance.
Experience with fintech, digital banking, or emerging financial technologies.
International legal experience or cross-border transaction expertise.
Professional certification in Islamic Finance / alternative dispute resolution.
Professional qualification in Corporate Secretarial practice (e.g., ICSA).
