      Job Title: Manual Machinist

      Job Description

      We are seeking a skilled Manual Machinist to set up and operate conventional machine tools including lathes, mills, drill presses, and grinders to produce precision parts and components. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, the ability to read and interpret blueprints, and a commitment to producing high-quality work that meets exact specifications.

      Responsibilities

      • Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other conventional machine tools.
      • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine machining operations and sequences.
      • Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
      • Measure and inspect finished parts using precision measuring instruments to ensure conformance to specifications.
      • Perform routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure proper operation.
      • Make adjustments to machine settings to maintain quality and tolerances.
      • Identify and troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary corrections.
      • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
      • Document work completed and maintain accurate production records.

      Essential Skills

      • High school diploma or equivalent required.
      • Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program, technical school training, or equivalent work experience.
      • 3-5 years of experience operating manual machine tools (lathe, mill, grinder, drill press).
      • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
      • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators.
      • Strong mathematical skills including trigonometry and geometry.
      • Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, speeds, feeds, and materials.
      • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
      • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
      • Good problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
      • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.

      Work Environment

      The role is based in a manufacturing or machine shop setting with exposure to noise, vibration, metal dust, and cutting fluids. You will work near moving mechanical parts and equipment and may be required to work in varying temperatures. The position involves standing for extended periods and performing repetitive motions. Personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots is required. Typically, the position is full-time and may include overtime, weekends, or shift work depending on production needs.

      This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Memphis, TN.

      Pay and Benefits

      The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00/hr.
