- Supports clinical and operations leaders in creating and conducting analytically sound and achievable proposals for accomplishing rapid organizational learning, evaluating innovations in care delivery, and driving clinical quality improvement
- Oversees and directs the financial and staff resources to support the IMPROVE portfolio of projects
- Serves as an information resource for CPMG physicians, KPCO operational leaders, and clinical staff inquiring about rapid organizational learning and quality improvement projects
- Discusses and seeks guidance about proposed IMPROVE projects with Senior Leadership sponsors from CPMG and Health Plan
- In collaboration with appropriate clinical and operations departments, develops proposals that will evaluate and test innovations in clinical care delivery.
- Collaborates in the oversight and review of suggested rapid organizational study protocols for suitability, feasibility, appropriateness, and operational engagement
- Develops relationships with other Kaiser Permanente regions pursuing rapid organizational learning, particularly through the KP Medical Foundation
- Designs, develops, and obtains external funding to support independent research portfolio within the framework of the IHR and KPCO goals and objectives
- Individually and collaboratively prepares internal reports and publications
- Leads interpretation and dissemination of research results
- Serves on relevant IHR and KPCO committees
- MD or DO
- Demonstrated expertise and experience in leading and managing a portfolio of research directed at rapid organizational learning and improvement.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively facilitate interdisciplinary teams
- Prior leadership experience managing and leading clinical operations and quality improvement research
- Not prohibited from research by any government agency
- Familiarity with investigator-initiated research conduct and compliance
- A minimum of 7 years of prior experience with rapid organizational learning, quality improvement research and independent research preferred
- Active medical license and board certification in medical specialty

Medical Director of IMPROVE (Innovative Methods to Promote Regional Operational Value and Efficiency)
Job Summary
The Medical Director of IMPROVE will report to the Executive Director of the Institute for Health Research (IHR) and will collaborate with KPCO care delivery and operations to achieve the highest standards of scientific excellence through rigorous review and evaluation of care delivery initiatives. The incumbent will lead a program of research that will contribute to rapid organizational learning and continuous quality improvement while enhancing the efficiency and cost effectiveness of medical care. The IMPROVE Medical Director will provide leadership to support collaborations between the Institute for Health Research, Kaiser Permanente Health Plan and Colorado Permanente Medical Group in areas of strategic importance while measuring and improving all components of member experience, improving the health of populations, and reducing the cost of care. The incumbent will lead the IMPROVE program as it applies KPCO data to important clinical problems in innovative ways using advanced statistical analyses and evaluating interventions that improve the efficiency, quality, and member-centeredness of care.

FTE: Up to 0.40 FTE dedicated to Medical Director of IMPROVE responsibilities, and 0.60 FTE split between an independent research portfolio supported by external funding and clinical care delivery
