      MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

      To perform routine laboratory tests in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and guidelines

      KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

      Receive, record and sort histopathology samples according to professional standards

      Perform routine histopathology laboratory services related to examination of surgical specimens, tissue dehydration, clearing, impregnation with paraffin, tissue cutting, and staining of slides

      Prepare solutions, stains and reagents in accordance with standard procedures

      Contribute to relevant quality improvement initiatives aimed at mitigating risks, compliance governance and increased patient safety

      Actively contribute and guide, where needed, relevant training and health and safety initiatives

      Operate, calibrate, and monitor the effective functioning of standard laboratory equipment that includes general hygiene and sharpening and honing of microtome knives

      Perform general stock management and ordering functions

      REQUIRED EDUCATION

      A relevant Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences or a related field

      REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

      At least 3-5 years' full time experience as a medical laboratory technologist in Anatomic Pathology

      REQUIRED JOB SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

      • Correct maintenance of instrumentation according to manufacturer's guidelines
      • Knowledgeable in Approved International Accreditation Standards or equivalent
      • Knowledgeable in laboratory equipment and testing to perform quality control checks and instrumentation troubleshooting
      • Laboratory information systems and reporting
      • Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office applications
      • Understand and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
