      Job Overview:

The Modern Youth Apprenticeship Program offers Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) Juniors and Seniors a unique opportunity to gain paid, hands-on healthcare experience while continuing their high school coursework. This structured apprenticeship is designed to help students explore a high-demand healthcare career with the guidance of trained professionals in a safe, supportive environment.

      What Students Will Do:

Students hired into this role will work as a Student Tech in the Sterile Processing Department under the supervision of a trained preceptor. Responsibilities include:

      • Learning essential processes that support surgical and patient care

      • Receiving hands-on, on-the-job training within a hospital setting

      • Developing professional skills such as responsibility, time management, and teamwork

      • Preparing to sit for the Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) exam

Students are paid employees of Deaconess while participating in the program.

What Parents & Guardians Should Know:
      • This is a structured, supervised apprenticeship, not a shadowing experience

      • Students receive hands-on training with professional oversight

      • Work schedules are coordinated to align with EVSC school coursework

      • Skills learned are nationally transferable and in high demand

      • The CRCST certification provides a strong foundation for:

        • Immediate employment after high school

        • Continued education in healthcare

        • Long-term career growth within hospital systems

This program allows students to explore healthcare careers before investing in college, helping families make informed post-graduation decisions.

      Why This Program Matters
      • Earn income while gaining real-world experience

      • Graduate with a professional certification pathway

      • Build confidence in a healthcare setting

      • Reduce uncertainty about future career choices

      • Learn employability skills valued by all industries

      Eligibility Requirements:

      • Current EVSC student

      • Junior or Senior enrolled through EVSC OptIN

      • Interest in healthcare and hands-on learning

      • Preparing to sit for the CRCST certification exam

This is more than a job—it’s a head start. If you’re curious about healthcare, like working with your hands and want to build a future while still in school, this apprenticeship could be for you.
